The hearing was long overdue and people in Manthos was starting to wonder what was going on. Was Lykrevia going to be behind bars forever? Meanwhile, daily life continued. And for Noor and the family the most important thing was to settle the formalities concerning Areth and Epiktetos' wedding.
These things were never as easy as one might think, so Noor was grateful that she had the support of Figaleía. But in the end they all agreed, and even if the dowry was a bit higher than Noor had hoped for, she was really happy with the arrangements.
The wedding was a success, but not without a tiny bit of drama.
Lysistrate, the groom's twin sister hadn't showed up. The groom's mother suggested they should start without her. That did not go down well.
Epiktetos fell into tears, mumbling that he wouldn't get married without his sister there, and the atmosphere became nervous and tensed. Luckily Myrto decided to grab everybody's attention, and did a bride's silly walk performance while they were waiting.
Finally Lyisistrate and her husband arrived, embarrassed and sorry, but as they explained later; when you have newborn twins, sometimes things doesn't go as planned.
With everyone present the young couple tied the knot, and Areth became Kyria Pseftikh.
An evening a few days after the wedding Kyria Figaleía paid Noor a visit.
- I think it was very successful, wouldn't you agree?
- It was flawless, it was a lovely ceremony and the reception was also delightful. Thank you so much Figaleía.
- I notice that your friend Amunet didn't come.
- To be honest I didn't expect her to, after all that's happened. I'm disappointed she wasn't there, but it didn't take away the magic. Maybe it was just as well that she didn't come.
- I believe you are right Noor. Unfortunately. Life is not always easy. Which brings me to something I wanted to discuss with you.
- Yes?
- I haven't been feeling well lately. And I was hoping that you or your family would be able to assist me with certain things in the house. If I don't get better. You will be richly rewarded.
- But of course! No reward needed, I would be happy to help.
- I'm planning to leave my house to you, Noor. When I'm gone there isn't anybody else.
- Hopefully it will be a long time to come. And it's way too much of course, I'm sure I don't deserve it, but if that's what you want to do I respect it.
- Just please take care of the cats...
- Of course! But Figaleía, didn't you tell me you had a brother? Maybe he would be interested in the house? And for sure he would want to see you if you are not feeling well?
- I do have a brother, Yousif, but we haven't spoken in ages. I don't know why, it's the distance probably. I think he is in Kastanea now, that's the last thing I heard. I don't know anyone there, so...
- Well, I think maybe Teteriu gave lectures there. I remember, because it was such a long journey, and Eira was worried about him. I can ask Eira tomorrow if she, or Mezamura maybe, still have contacts there.
- That would mean so much to me. If I could see him again before I ... Thank you for your efforts Noor.
