Prose and Cons: An Easy Way to Do Good at a Con
Do you take photos of your hotel room at the con so you can show off how many people you crammed in? Maybe you just are testing the lighting for that selfie later. Or snapping photos to brag about how awesome the room looks, or for a review, or to complain...whatever.
I want to introduce you today to an app called TraffickCam - it’s a simple, free app that you can download to your phone and it exists to help stop human trafficking.
TraffickCam does require access to your location data and your camera. It will ask you for your hotel and your room number, and 4 photos of your room (without people in them).
You may have noticed that some hotels seem to have a theme to their decor or perhaps someplace you stayed at had a weird painting or mural. Well, that stuff shows up in the background of a lot of ads that offer up trafficking victims for various services. The people behind TraffickCam are building a database of hotel rooms that law enforcement can search to help identify where these advertising photos are taken - then the photos can be used as evidence and may also help in future investigations as well.
Their website explains it better than I can, but honestly - it’s two minutes of your time to log on, snap 4 photos with your room info, and log out. No one is going to come track you down once you send it through, and it’s for an excellent cause.
