In the “what if…” category — this news blurb, from 1970:
“Apple’s soul girl, Doris Troy, hopes to change a part of the British concert scene. She and George Harrison have come up with something called the ‘Apple Band,’ which should start traveling in a few weeks. ‘George and I are getting this band together to travel with Billy Preston and myself and we’re going to have singers and dancers with us to make up an Apple revue, sort of a soul package,’ Doris said here. She also said she would love to hand everyone little tambourines when they walk in the door, so the audience could get into the act. They also plan to have Eric Clapton, [Klaus] Voorman[n] and Alan White with them, three musicians who have been involved with other group efforts, namely the Plastic Ono Band, and Bonnie and Delaney and Friends. Doris’s new album is due soon, featuring her single, ‘Ain’t That Cute’ [co-written by Doris and George].” - article by Lisa Mehlman, The Columbus Ledger (April 28, 1970)
