It’s been a long time. But the other day, I got an email from someone, asking me if the Apprentice Tarot was ever coming back. To be honest I really moved away from it during the pandemic. The logistics of everything was too much for me at the time.

For those who didn’t see it or don’t recall, it has upright and reversed meanings, elements, and suit associations on the cards to help the new reader in getting into their practice right away. I originally made it as a deck to help myself learn, and I was so happy that I got to help some other people learn too.

So I’ve decided to re-release it here, permanently this time, as a print-on-demand deck. It doesn’t come with the rigid box anymore in order to keep costs down given how expensive PoD can be, so it has a purple velvet deck pouch instead. But it is otherwise the same deck, and if you’d been wanting to get ahold of one, well, it will remain available here if you’d like.

Tarot Introduction

So I've decided I'm going to learn tarot along with my bones. So I purchased The Apprentice Tarot deck from @magicianmew It's a gorgeous deck and I'm already feeling some curious and cheerful vibes!

So I carried it around with me today, talked to it, told it a bit about me, shuffled it a few times then decided we should have a formal introduction.

I used this spread.

For this I decided to use my coconut incense and sand & sun candle, as a sea witch to further set the mood with my deck. Then I drew my cards and this is the result. I may need a little help with the interpretation of them, cause some seem confusing.

8 of Cups: Disillusioned, Abandonment, Withdrawal

I'm... Concerned? This card honestly gave me a start and I had to pause before I continued to draw. I had drawn this card, this very same card, earlier after I shuffled the deck for the first time, being curious what I would get. So... I kinda feel like my deck is trying to tell me something, though I'm not entirely sure what.

2. Your Strengths as a Deck

6 of Wands: Public Recognition, Victory, Confidence

Confidence stands out to me, because bI know I don't have a lot of self confidence at all. So I am happy if my deck can assist with this.

3. Your Limitations as a Deck

2 of Pentacles: Balance, Adaptability, Priorities

I laughed. My deck is as bad as me with balance and priorities. It's all good. We can muddle through together.

4. What Can I Learn From You

Queen of Pentacles: Practical, Creature Comforts, Down-to-earth

If my deck can teach me to be more practical then that's a bonus I will gladly take.

5. What is the Best Way to Work With You

7 of Pentacles: Diligence, Investment, Hard Work

Hard work is exactly what I plan to do. And I'm going to stick with it! Never let up!

Queen of Swords: Independent, Complex, Perceptive, Quick Thinker

These all sound like really good qualities that I look forward to building in a relationship with my deck.

With the questions about the initial card aside, I'm very happy to have met me deck, introduced ourselves and can't wait to see what the future brings. 🌊❤️🦈

God I get a thing from @magicianmew and I completely forget to post about it, shame on me. (No, I don't actually think anyone wants the names of my family. I've just been looking for an excuse to use that Ashens quote for like six months lmfao.) Anyway I backed Germ's Apprentice Tarot shortly before it hit its goal and it showed up three days ago! Please excuse the bathroom sink in that second image, someone was cooking and I got told to move if I was gonna take pictures lol. It's... really just a gorgeous minimalistic deck where the love and care really shines through (especially in the lettering!). Also, it has fantastic packaging- it's got a solid magnetic closure and everything so there's a very good chance of this becoming my go-to travel deck. It's pretty easy to shuffle even with my incredibly questionable fine motor skills/manual dexterity and the cardstock is really good quality and just slightly textured. So I don't drop my cards all the goddamn time but it's not textured enough to cause sticking like another deck I have is prone to. Also the divination incense smells fantastic (and I'd love it if Germ refills in her shop tbh), the carrying bag is nice and durable, and the cloth is absolutely gorgeous and silky but also feels easy to clean. Which is great because I live with two dogs and one is a puppy, my life frequently turns into a horrible mess lmfao. (Full disclosure: I spent like five solid minutes trying to push the fucking box open like a moron before I noticed the packaging at the bottom of the flap wasn't completely sealed. That's pretty much what's happening in pictures 4, 5, and 6. Not pictured is an aggressive facepalm after, lmfao. Who let me be an adult?) The deck itself in my interview spread indicates it's a bit impatient and is going to push me to take action when I don't necessarily want to, which... is prolly something I need, to be honest. The Apprentice Tarot Deck - Limited Quantities!

The Apprentice Tarot was created by @magicianmew on Tumblr and Instagram who currently resides in Richmond, VA. Their goal was to create a deck that is beginner friendly, and does not require a bulky guidebook. The deck itself is traditional in nature, broken up into the Major and Minor Arcana, totaling 78 cards. Each illustration includes the overall theme, element, and upright and reversal meanings. This makes it extremely versatile as a divination tool, giving you the ease to work with it directly instead of flipping through a book for more information. Everything you need is laid out neatly, and the deck itself is colorful and full of artistic personality! Personally I have used this deck in my shop readings and have found it to be extremely helpful and insightful. This is a limited pre-print run of the deck, before the artist does a full run and Kickstarter! I only have 6 decks available, making this edition quite nearly one of a kind.

Review of the Apprentice Tarot

🔮 this is @magicianmew ‘s new tarot deck, and i absolutely recommend it!

🔮 this is probably the most beginner friendly deck i’ve ever used, including the ones that come with booklets. it reads very well, and has a gentle guiding touch for beginners. 

🔮 this was the deck i had on hand when a friend requested an impromptu tarot reading. tarot’s never been my strong suit, especially not in person, but this deck helped a lot with that! in a situation that made me feel like a beginner all over again it really pulled through and had all the right cues and hints for working with a tarot deck when you’re not comfortable with the reading, or when you’re out of practice, or you’re just starting to learn.

🔮 it has a lovely design, clean and easy to see, and it has both regular and reverse guidelines which are very helpful when reading, however they are not so obvious that you can’t avoid reading the meanings if you want to test yourself on each card’s message. 

🔮 the only thing i would suggest is the color scheme can be a little inconsistent, but besides such a minor aesthetic issue it’s a really wonderful deck and very helpful, without being overbearingly so.
