Dorcas rested her chin in her hands, squinting up at James. She did not typically spend time in the kitchens, but it was mercifully empty of Mandrake babies, and therefore not reminiscent of the stupid project. Still, it didn’t sound so bad when he talked about it. Why couldn’t she have been paired with Lily? “The more you say Fingolfin, the worse it actually sounds, you know.”

Dorcas sat down on a pumpkin and cast herself a heating charm. “I’m frustrated and I want to hex something, but there’s nothing I can hex, so this is me just speaking my frustration aloud!” she said to no one in particular. God, this was going to be an awful day. “I’m never walking around the grounds again.”

Dorcas dropped into the seat beside James at the Gryffindor table, resting her chin in her hands. “So, if you’re ready, we can go on that date right now,” she said without preamble.
