ARABIAN MAGIC - ARCADE
Magic in Post-Islamic Arabia
“ The traditional term for a sorcerer was "kahin" and a kahinni was seen as one who collaborated with the djinn. How this was accomplished varied a great deal. Some kahin used charms, amulets, talismans, and incantations which were supposed to bind djinn to their will. The djinn in the story of Aladdin reflect this, with one djinni bound to the lamp, the other to a ring. Other Kahin were thought to be friends with or favored by the djinn, and the spirits would willing aide them, without the need for coercion.”

APRIL 2018 UPDATE www.arcadequartermaster.com
After the previous Chinese-themed motif, we now go to the mystical Arabian Nights-inspired sidescrolling beat-em-ups and platformers! It’s no coincidence that the two coop games were released in 1992, right at the height of the release of Disney’s Aladdin.
ARABIAN FIGHT: The Princess Lurana has been kidnapped by the evil sheikh Sazabiss. It’s now up to her valiant companions Sinbat, Ramaya, Goldar, and Datta to battle armies of pirates, demons and undead and defeat Sazabiss once and for all to rescue Lurana. Arabian Fight has a similar engine Sega used for Revenge of Death Adder, particularly the scaling effects. Part of the game’s charm is the screen-clearing attacks from Golden Axe or Streets Rage, this time in the form of elemental magic (through the use of lamps) along with cool animations of the spellcasting character. The item list may lack a few sprites due to the scaling effects.
ARABIAN MAGIC: Taito’s own 1001 Nights-inspired title has a benevolent king cursed by an evil wizard. Four young warriors Rassid, Lisa, Sinbad and Afshaal must recover the seven prismatic jewels from the wizard’s generals to lift the king’s curse. Aside from a wide variety of items, each character has a unique ability by pressing both buttons: Rassid can move while blocking, while the other three have their deadly special attacks. Lamps are also the main form of enemy-clearing magic attacks on the road for the duel against Baruantess.
OSMAN: Hailed as the Mitchell Corp’s successor to Strider, from the same former Capcom team behind both games. Various aspects in Osman like slope-running, circular arenas, power-ups and enemy-slicing are sure to bring Strider veterans straight into familiar action in a dystopian trek through Middle East and Europe. Aside from the flurry of kicks and death-defying jumps is an extremely weird plotline and dialogues which peaked the curiosity of anyone who have encountered the game.
Please enjoy this new trinity of updates, as the next one will feature a city-busting 80s arcade game to tie-in the movie release!
