Testrin the Aracokra Monk
The Therassic Spire: The Therassic Spire of Kaer Maga, often referred to by locals simply as “The Great Library,” is believed by some scholars to be the oldest repository of knowledge in Varisia, though its archivists neither confirm nor deny such claims. Sadizi would be one of the few that would not care, rather gleeful that so much knowledge is accessible (with rules of course) to the masses as it is. Though not the most gregarious, more awkward than anything else with flustering and stuttering words that most would not inherently know, they would go through trouble to try and accommodate with whoever might need assistance.
Sadizi is what is brusquely called a piebald peacock aracokra, a mouthful to be said and a bit of a misnomer. Sadizi was born a peahen, dull in color but vibrant in personality according to her friend, with little to abysmal luck in love. Now, said friend has articulated that perhaps if she had brighter colored feathers, she would have more luck. Sadizi tried to impress to her that males of her variety of aracokra are the colorful ones. What did her friend do? She found a Wand of Gender Change, it was supposed to be a temporary shift for fun and to prove a point? What happened was a terrible chain of events that involved the wand, the summer solstice festival, a wrong incantation and terrible luck. So instead of a complete transition, the spell resulted in an incomplete transition of teal and white feathers with smatterings of brown on the wings. Though her friend was highly apologetic about the situation, Sadizi was under the philosophy of ‘If you can change it, do. If you can’t, move on’. And moved on they did. They’re still friends with Anafa Balache, the Halfing Jinx who is a student of the the Lyceum: Kaer Maga’s own college of the arts. It’s simply…a different aspect to handle. Preening takes significantly longer and confusion with newcomers as to what their gender is. Sadizi simply went with whatever people went with. He? Fine. She? Also fine. If they ask, They is preferable. It took Tiki, Sadizi’s familiar and resident library flying fox, several weeks to get used to the new smell but with some extra fruit and now more places for her to cling to it turned out fine enough.
The average day of this bungling wizard is as follows: opening an hour before sunrise. Organizing the returned scrolls and books from the Respectable Patrons and returning them to their respectful places. Greeting the staff that arrives after; that includes the Archivist, the Chronicler, the Merchant, the Authenticator and so on. Fruit break. Creating databases of library materials, organizing library materials so they are easy to find, help library patrons to conduct research to evaluate search results and reference materials, turning in potential donators to the appropriate staff, publishers’ announcements, and catalogs, maintain existing collections and choose new books, scrolls and manuscripts, plan programs for different audiences, such as story time for children (and assure that none are taken out without knowledge), train and supervise library staff, and volunteers along with other duties. Lunch is whenever there is a lull in the day. It is good pay considering the location is in the illustrious Highside Stacks (the uppercrust ring district) and their abode is in Downmarket (a core district where the locals shop, however, to them it is a place of contentment.
However, today is the day that chaos once again knocks on their door.
introducing quell, our bard aracokra! still figuring out how to do clouds but i’ve always enjoyed drawing winged characters, especially with this being the new challenge of basing the design off an albatross!
