The third son of Fingolfin, Arakáno (Argon), emerged in the course of the making of the genealogies. A pencilled note on the last of the four tables says that he fell in the fighting at Alqualondë; this was struck out, and my father notes that a preferable story was that he perished in the Ice. It is curious that this third son, of whom there had never before been any mention, entered (as it seems) without a story, and the manner of his death was twice changed before the remarkable appearance here of 'the first battle of Fingolfin's host with the Orks, the Battle of the Lammoth,' in which he fell. - The Peoples of Middle-Earth, “The Shibboleth of Fëanor” (note 38)

Arakáno was the tallest of the brothers and the most impetuous, but his name was never changed to Sindarin form, for he perished in the first battle of Fingolfin’s host with the Orcs, the Battle of the Lammoth (but the Sindarin form Argon was often later given as a name by Noldor and Sindar in memory of his valour).

Fingon lives the abject horror of seeing his younger siblings outgrow him.

Turgon is first, Fingon thinks it’s fine. Annoying, yes, but survivable.

Aredhel is next. It’s weird. She’s younger, she’s a girl. She should not be taller than him. Fingon is now constantly teased and manhandled. He’s not okay.

Then Argon. He stays short for a long time. Fingon’s given a false sense of solidarity. Then Argon returns from Mandos, a head and a half taller than Fingon.

If anyone asks, Fingon wailed artfully, despite whatever his siblings may say.
