Kyungsoo fiddled with the flowers. He had gotten roses, but these were yellow so they were special! He hoped Ara thought so. He rang the doorbell and ran a hand through his hair, nervous. After what felt like an hour, Ara opened the door and Kyungsoo nearly dropped the flowers.
“Wow,” he said. “You look-- amazing. Not to say that you don’t all the time! This is just like, an improvement- not that you needed one--” he trailed off.
Ara was just as awkward, a blushing mess as she cut him off with a “thank you”. Kyungsoo handed her the flowers and she smiled, running back inside to put them in water before going on the date.
When Kyungsoo had asked her out, he had talked about taking her to the movies, or a cafe, but apparently confident Kyungsoo planned much more extravagant dates. They were headed to one of the nicest restaurants in town, Kyungsoo knew the owner and it was cleared out for the night. It would just be him and Ara.
It seemed like a great idea at first. Kyungsoo could stare into Ara’s beautiful eyes and at Ara’s beautiful lips constantly and not worry about judgemental stares from other tables. However, a silent restaurant quickly became awkward. The natural silence in the middle of conversations became deafening, and Kyungsoo started to panic.
He finally excused himself to the restroom to collect his thoughts. Come on, Kyungsoo, you’re madly in love. Don’t be an idiot. Just be nice, or something. That’s what you’re supposed to do, right?
He wasn’t sure how long he was in there for, but when he came back, Ara’s demeanour seemed to have shifted.
“You alright?” Kyungsoo asked.
Kyungsoo ran a hand through his hair. He knew he had messed up, but he hadn’t thought it was this bad. His eyes lightened at his secret weapon, however.
“Come here,” he said, taking Ara’s hand and leading her outside the restaurant. “I want you to see something.”
Confused, Ara followed as Kyungsoo led her towards a beautiful park in the centre of town. He stopped by the long reflecting pool, currently lined with lit trees for Christmas.
“Look,” he said, urging Ara to look into the pool.
Ara leaned over and gasped at the beautiful sight. It was like another world. The reflections glinted softly in the night air, painting the world in a beautiful rainbow haze.
“Do you like it?” Kyungsoo asked.
“I think it’s the most beautiful thing in the world.”
Ara nodded again. “Yeah, the trees are really pretty.”
Kyungsoo shook his head. “I wasn’t talking about the trees. I was talking about you,” he said, turning to face Ara who was blushing again. Kyungsoo smiled. She’s so cute when she does that!
“Look, I’m sorry about the bad date, I didn’t think it would be so awkward--” he began, “I just-- really like you and wanted to spend time with you and just you. Won’t be trying that again, not like that anyways...” He trailed off.
Ara flashed him a reassuring smile and he relaxed a little.
“I hope this makes up for it.”
He pulled Ara close and gazed into the depths of her eyes, leaning his forehead against hers. He was terrible at judging situations so he wasn’t sure whether or not it would be appropriate to kiss her now. He settled on a kiss on the nose and a tight hug, before escorting Ara back to the car and back home.
He waved goodbye as she walked into her apartment and Kyungsoo let himself do a little happy dance on the porch. FINALLYYYYYY!
