I took apart a stock home arcade button to see what's being worked with there and it does have a micro switch but it's obviously one that has no audible click making this button seem "mushy" compared to other micro switches.. 🕹️💜😛

They remind me of the ones typically used in mechanical keyboards..

For reference this is what Cherry mechanical keyboard micro switches look like..

Here’s my .30 Caliber M19A1 ammo can PC casemod ! Instead of 7.62×51mm NATO cartridges, the box now contains a mini ITX board (Intel D945GCLF2 dual core Atom 330) with 2GB ram and a 8GB CF card as a boot volume… see slideshow for more details.

I use my iPad to control the thing as a VNC/RDC-controlled headless unit. Additional storage can be connected to the Neutrik USB-port at the back, without having to open the can.

Note: the box was originally just slightly too short for the board, so in order to cram everything in, I had to cut out the bottom and weld some steel brackets on there (see here: 1, 2, 3).

When I did live visuals for the first time at California Extreme, I kept finding myself plugging and unplugging banana connectors in time, which is ridiculous. I also bought some arcade buttons - this guy was selling nice ones that use standard sized (replaceable!) switches instead of esoteric stuff...

Anyway, I finally built this super simple but pretty looking patch box so I can trigger bends rhythmically by hand with the arcade buttons.
