I'm so goddamed scared.... (SPOILERS FOR ARCANE 1X04)

SO I fished episode 4 and....

- Viktor, honey, you good??? 'Cause I've seen ghosts with more color than you.... Jayce pls take care of your bf and stop flirting with Caitlyn....

- Powder broke my heart this episode, as was expected.... Like the way she froze when she saw the pink-haired girl xcuse me while I scream my lungs out]

- OH, OH and the FUCKING dolls.... Mylo's got me jumping and Claggor's got me crying... I miss them :(

- The callback to Get Jinxed got me ROLLING!!!! The way this tv show is a modern masterpiece smh

- The animation absofuckinglutely outstanding as always (Is it weird that i'm atractted to the way they draw fire? Cause I sure am...)

- PLs more Victor screantime, I beg you [Preferably not of him dying cause otherwise I WILL LOSE MY SHIT]

- Mel, honey, sweety, you know I love you STOP PUSHING JAYCE AND VIKTOR FOR NEW MODELS OF HEXTECH IT'S GONNA GO WRONG

Viktor has really great sense of snark which he interacts with Piltover class system, because of course it is absurd idea for him that such suggestion would happen.

In the background we see Mr. Kiramman which would never ask a person from undercity to make official address on the Progress Day. No one from the council would, because this is what they think of people from undercity even when one of them is present at the meeting.

But Jayce completely doesn't pick up this is an absurd situation, or on class divide between undercity and Piltover, and how it would be shocking to see someone from undercity being beacon of Progress in Piltover alongside him for well, all of Piltover. Meritocracy can only get you so far in Piltover, to Heimerdinger's assistant.

This show is so well constructed.

Analysis of the Counsel Scene

In episode 4 of Arcane, when Jayce and Viktor are addressing the counsel, it starts with Jayce and Viktor side by side. Equals. 

Then Jayce stands and takes a step forward. I know that it is because he’s addressing the counsel, but he walks essentially upstage of Viktor to do it. Now if you know anything about stage movement you know that walking upstage of someone is used to show abandonment or that you are making someone feel isolated. Now at this point it’s only about a step and they are still practically side by side.

Then Viktor goes to stand, to speak his peace and place himself back on an equal position. But Jayce stops him, holds out a hand and tells him to stay put, he’s got this. 

Then he walks forward, upstaging him even more. Completely turning his back and walking forward.

He’s largely blocking the view of Viktor in these shots (just like his mug blocked Viktor at Progress Day). 

Jayce then suggests shutting down everything they’ve worked for, clearly without discussing this with Viktor. His face is shocked, in horror. This was never discussed and he feels betrayed. 

This has clearly not been discussed with Viktor. Viktor is not an employee, but a Hextech partner. He should have been informed beforehand. But he doesn’t say anything. He’s already been told that it is not his place to speak. In fact, the only thing Viktor says in the scene is to give a progress report. A negative progress report (now thing to episode 9. Who gives the shocking and controversial news of Jayce’s deal? Viktor. Viktor is used by Jayce to deliver bad news to the counsel to ensure that Jayce himself is kept in a positive light. But this is another topic for another day.) Viktor only speaks at the beginning to deliver bad news. Other than that, he is not given a voice at all (and even stopped when he tries to speak.)

The last shot we get of Viktor is when Mel first suggests Jayce become a counselor. His back. Only half of his back and covered in a shadow, while we have a full view of Jayce in the light. 

IDK I just think that the framing of this scene really speaks to how Jayce is overshadowing Viktor. Viktor’s place is in the shadows, behind Jayce. Jayce’s place is in the light, in front of everyone, the one with a voice. 

Viktor’s being left behind by Jayce, whether intentionally or not.
