Attention students interested in conservation, STEM, or archaeology! We are offering a paid summer intern for 10 weeks this summer! The internship lasts from Monday, May 18 through Friday, July 24, 2026.

I just stumbled across this posting and thought I'd link it here. I have no connection with the job or the very cool Queen Anne's Revenge shipwreck conservation project, so I probably can't answer questions about what it would entail, but it sounds so great for new/future archaeologists or pre-program or studying conservators! I love their treatments of waterlogged wood and corroded metals. I got to visit their lab once and it was so fun.

Honestly, I wish to post more art conservation stuff on here. I'll never run an exclusively conservation themed blog I think, because I love silliness and fandom fun too much, but if my dearest mutuals and any other people following this account would be interested in it let me know!

The first museum object I’m conserving - a Roman black burnished ware jar!

It’s honestly crazy to think that I started my programme 4 weeks ago and now I’m being trusted with such a cool artefact. I’ll likely fix up previous attempts at conservation and attach pieces that have broken off

'Rusty lump' turns out to be 2,000-year-old silver dagger used by Roman soldier

Until it was restored, it kind of looked like a chicken finger.

Wow. The photo is a drawing, but the real thing doesn’t look all that different. And it DID look like a chicken finger. Amazing that they didn’t damage the dagger and its sheath and belt in the ‘cleaning’.

These sculptures stir such controversy, which I will simply here acknowledge but not get into. The work being done on them, though, is fascinating. More evidence that ancient sculpture was bright and colourful.
