In case you are thinking about going to school and becoming a conservator for a library with a large and convoluted mix of collections, know this:
Your pockets and desk will be FULL of these kinds of little notes that you will only kinda sorta remember their purpose when you find them days later.
And your camera roll on your phone will be littered with pictures of books and archival boxes that you know have problems that need to be investigated later.

The first museum object I’m conserving - a Roman black burnished ware jar!
It’s honestly crazy to think that I started my programme 4 weeks ago and now I’m being trusted with such a cool artefact. I’ll likely fix up previous attempts at conservation and attach pieces that have broken off
Obligatory pictures of pictures I took of it earlier lmao
This is the old church of Sant Andreu de Vila-Robau (Comarques Gironines, Catalonia). It was built in the 10th century, and its inside is (was?) covered in fresco paintings from the 12th century.
It’s deteriorating; but, like many other small villages, the city council doesn’t have the resources to take care of it and preserve it. In fact, the inhabitants of many rural areas like this one lack even basic infrastructure such as public transport to go to the near villages. The city council has asked the public administration for funding, but there isn’t enough for all the heritage sites in the country, so they haven’t received any. Meanwhile, without any treatment, the paintings keep deteriorating.
