#Repost @youngandcatholicng (@get_repost) ・・・ ・・・ St Michael's name means "who is like God?" He is mentioned in three books of the Bible: Daniel, Revelation and the Letter of Jude. In the book of Revelation or the Apocalypse, chapter 12:7-9, we read of a great war that went on in heaven. Michael and his angels battled with Satan (or the fallen angel Lucifer). Michael who was the leader of God's army became the champion of loyalty to God. We can ask St. Michael to make us strong in our love for Jesus and in our practice of the Catholic religion. - Blessed John Paul II reminded us: The continuous struggle against the devil that characterizes Michael the Archangel is still going on since the devil who seeks to take advantage of every situation, is still living and operative in the world. There are periods in which the existence of evil among men becomes singularly apparent. We have the impression today that people do not want to see the problem. Everything possible is done to remove from public awareness the existence of the ‘cunning attacks of the devil’, who ‘holds dominion over the underworld’ as spoken of in Ephesians. Perhaps the greatest triumph of Satan and his followers in our own day is that many have either forgotten about them or question their existence. They may say belief in angels was held only during less culturally advanced periods of history. Let us not forget though: Their mysterious action in the life of the world and their influence on people is real and effective. May we frequently seek the protection of St Michael the Archangel to triumph over every evil. - Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel: Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle; be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. God chose St Gabriel to announce to the Most Blessed Virgin the mystery of the Incarnation of the Son of God. Since it was a message of such transcendence, the Almighty chooses for the mission an Archangel, an angel of the highest calibre. His name signifies ‘Strength/Power of God’ because he would presage Christ, who, despite his humble appearance, would inspire awe even in the Principalities & Powers. It is natural for such an exalted figure to foretell the coming of the Lord of hosts & the hero of battles. - - St Bernard says: Among all the angels only Gabriel was found worthy to declare God’s plans to her & accept her ‘Fiat’. The angel’s greeting is so simple & charged with meaning. ‘Hail Mary, full of grace’ has become the most familiar & long-standing prayer of the Christian people. - - Gabriel is linked to the Messianic messages & his presence in Sacred Scripture points to the fulness of time. Earlier, he had been sent to Daniel, to presage the period of Christ’s birth, & to Zechariah to foretell the birth of John the Baptist. St. Gabriel is the announcer, the communicator of the Good News. Like Him, may we too be bearers of good news for the family & the world from our place in society - Prayer to the Archangel Gabriel: O Blessed Archangel Gabriel, we beseech you, to intercede for us at the throne of divine mercy in our present necessities, that, as you announced to Mary the mystery of the Incarnation so through your prayers and Patronage in heaven we may obtain the benefits of the same, and sing the praise of God forever in the land of the living. We know St Raphael the Archangel principally through the history of Tobias which is significant for the account of the Creator’s confiding to the angels the little children of God who are always in need of vigilance, care, and protection. - - Sacred Scripture narrates how the young Tobias prepared to set out on a journey. He first went in search of someone to accompany him, & found Raphael, who was an angel. At the beginning of the trek he didn’t know his companion well, but repeatedly had occasion to experience his protection on the road. Raphael led the young man happily to his relative Raguel, whose daughter, Sarah, Tobias would marry. The helpful fellow-traveller exorcised the bride-to-be of an evil spirit & later cured Tobias’ father of his blindness. Today, therefore, St Raphael is venerated as the patron of both travellers & of the sick. On the way back, the Archangel revealed his identity: I am Raphael, one of the seven angels who present the prayers of the just before the majesty of the Holy One. - - Life itself is a long journey that ends in God. To reach the end of the road safely, we need help, protection & advice, since there are many possibilities of straying or getting perilously detained on the road. We can ask St. Raphael to protect us in this journey of life to know what God asks of us & ask for help when illness strikes us or someone we love. - - Prayer to St. Raphael the Archangel - Glorious Archangel St. Raphael, great prince of the heavenly court, you are illustrious for your gifts of wisdom and grace. You are a guide of those who journey by land or sea or air, consoler of the afflicted, and refuge of sinners.I beg you, assist me in all my needs and in all the sufferings of this life, as once you helped the young Tobias on his travels. Because you are the “medicine of God” I humbly pray you to heal the many infirmities of my soul and the ills that afflict my body.
