Remember when Robin and Supey made that list where they had ideas for what the team smelled like, and I decided that Kal smelling like the ocean just wouldn't do? Yeah, a fic was born for that...
notes: Maaaashy! I said I would write this like last week but I couldn't find time! Super apologies for the wait, but at least I got to it...?
also: and not a single regret was given that day. and um nothing explicit is shown bUT ITS IMPLIED
.
It’s a surprisingly lazy day, complete with a few hastily chosen movies, snacks, hair braiding and general bumming around when Conner takes a huge whiff of the air and looks genuinely surprised. Everyone’s first reaction is to give Wally the stink-eye, but after a moment of his incessant denial Conner grunts, “No, it wasn’t him.”
M’gann’s hand floats around his arm before resting just below his shoulder. She gives a small squeeze, and worried smile. “What’s the problem Conner?”
“Yeah, it looked like you were trying to inhale the whole Cave through your nose,” Robin supplies helpfully around a mouthful of Twinkies and Pretzels (“At the same time?” Wally gags, “Dude, that’s fifty different levels of nasty.”)
Conner ignores Robin. So does everyone else. “Is Roy here?” The question is random and M’gann cocks her head the side, obviously confused.
Artemis answers before she can, an impatient wave of her hand accompanying the reply. “Tall, red, and angry isn’t here, no. He hasn’t been here in a couple days, actually. Why do you ask?” She winces slightly; Zatanna apologizes and combs her fingers through the mess of blonde hair, muttering a detangling spell, no doubt.
“It smells weird,” Conner says, which doesn’t really explain anything. Without further comment, he reclines and M’gann takes the opportunity to use him as her personal pillow.
A few minutes later, Kaldur appears from the depths of his room, presumably (though he has been found in the basement once or twice. The occasion is normally instantly forgotten by whoever find him, unless it’s Raquel) stretching and yawning with an impossibly bleary look about him. He waves a hand in silent greeting, bending out of view and reappearing with a kettle in hand. There’s a chorus of ‘hey’s and smiles from his teammates.
“Where’ve you been, Kal? You missed Kill Bill!” Wally looks affronted; as the chooser of the movie, he made it his personal business that everyone watched it.
“Er,” Kaldur mumbles as he prepares himself a cup of tea. “My apologies. I was…occupied with other activities.”
“If you’re telling my you skipped an amazing and perfect movie—shut up Rob, it’s great—to read another one of your textbooks I’m never going to forgive you.”
Kaldur smiles and shakes his head. “No worries then, I was not reading.” He doesn’t elaborate further—and it’s not like he has the chance to, Conner’s sitting up and gently moving M’gann to a different position, his face blank when he asks,
“Is Roy here?”
Kaldur nearly drops his mug. Thankfully, he catches it before it can shatter on the ground, and when he looks up there’s a flush on his cheeks that no one noticed before. “Uh, no. Why do you ask?”
Conner answers with another question. “If he’s not here, do you use his soap or something?”
“No,” Kaldur says again, looking confused. “Why do you ask?”
“It smells like him,” Conner shrugs. He relaxes back into his seat with M’gann. Zatanna pauses in her quest of braiding Artemis’ hair; Artemis jerks her head up to raise an eyebrow at Kal; Wally and Robin both stop cramming their cheeks full and the whole place is quiet.
“I…do not know why that is,” Kaldur says in a rush, turning swiftly to pour is now-boiled water into his mug. “Perhaps you are confused?”
“No, no I’m not.” Conner lazily lifts a hand, pointing at each person, “Wally smells like he went swimming in an ocean of Axe, Robin smells like he’s been baked with a batch of cookies, Zatanna smells like fruit, Artemis smells like laundry detergent, M’gann smells cotton candy, Roy smells like WalMart and you normally smell like the beach or that peach tea stuff you drink, but now you smell like Roy.”
Everyone blinks. Wally looks conflicted; “I can’t decide if that’s kind of adorable or really creepy.” He pauses, and realizes what everyone else realized minutes before. His exclamation of “Oh, sick!” eloquently sums up the situation.
“Whatever you are implying is not appreciated—“ Kaldur starts, then cuts off when hiss voice cracks magnificently.
M’gann and Conner look equally confused when the others break out in snickers. Kaldur resembles a fish out of water as he tries to find something to say and can’t. His expression grows increasingly flustered until he gives up entirely and disappears again, tea in tow.
The snickers melt into a comfortable quiet. Zatanna and Artemis whisper furiously to each other, chuckling every now and then, while Robin and Wally don the expressions of someone trying really hard to forget something.
Conner still looks confused. “What’s so funny? Why did Kaldur get so embarrassed? Why does he smell like Roy?”
Wally slaps a hand on Conner’s shoulder, “We’ll tell you when you’re older, buddy.”

//skhdgjdsdgd hope you’ll be alright ;3;
((Should be, wind's just knocking down leaves and the rain while in sheets is still light. At any rate I've got food, water and flashlights as well as a generator. If it does get horrendously bad I'll be fine. *hugs* Sorry I haven't been on. ))
