Last day of Internship, week 9
Since joining the firm, I have been on site once.. ONCE ONLY and it isn't even like I haven't been enthusiastic but ah well. They admittedly said today, as I am leaving, that I have had to do the boring things but I came at a very busy time. However, it doesn't change my opinion of the firm and I am not sure if I'll be back but I have the opportunity to and my send off has been cute. LUCKILY they have made me involved and despite having to do my fair share of printing, paperwork and filing, it has been okay. I know I have a good reference whenever I need it and my boss even said if I need any help with university work then I must stay in touch and they might even crit things for me?
Currently watching the guy next to me fall asleep at his desk.
-I have learnt AutoCad to a substantial level. It never ends, literally, the space is infinite.
-I have learnt that rendering is my strong point and my Photoshop skills do come in handy.
-I have been paid ( not tons but it has racked up on payday definitely £££)
-I have seen first hand that a residential Architectural firm is rather boring and you must have a real interest in the technical side of things, as it not creative at all. Building Regs say it all.
-I have learnt that even now, some people don't like AutoCad and some prefer to still work with hand drawing but Cad makes it a lot more precise and it is essential for planners to see Cad drawings.
-I have learnt that firms are over ambitious with completion dates and things do not go to plan.
-I have been commissioned a few of my own projects albeit not many but still it is something, and I have more things for my portfolio that display a variety of skills.
-I have seen the stress levels that Architecture can make people reach and it makes me think whether it is worth it.
-I have learnt about real life and how they work and Architecture is definitely not all fun and games or even remotely that fun.
I do just wish I went on site more and attended more of the meetings because I haven't been given that opportunity but in all fairness, I have been given the chance to work here as most of my fellow students have done retail jobs this summer or just unpaid work experience. So for that, I am thankful but I feel fully Architortured of the job.
