Happy Birthday to Eugene V. Debs! This rare union made cloth banner from Debs’ presidential run in 1912 with his vice presidential candidate Socialist Mayor of Milwaukee Emil Seidel comes from our Carolyn J. Jacobson Collection of "Eugene V. Debs for President" Materials. Also included in the banner are Charles Edward Russell and Gustave A. Strebel for Governor and Lieutenant Governor of New York on the Socialist ticket. The Kheel Center holds many Debs materials including letters, publications, audio recordings, speeches, research files, and his papers on microfilm. November's theme for the #ArchivesHashtagParty with the @usnatarchives is #ArchivesBookLove, and at the Ship History Center in Warwick, RI, I can assure you, we love our books! With over 20,000 volumes including periodicals in our Maritime Reference Library, there's a lot to choose from. Here are two examples of just some of the amazing books we have in our library and collections. The first book includes foldout profiles and deck plans of ships, illustrations, and details on the Cunard Line. This book is a great resource for anyone interested in early Cunard or Atlantic shipping. The second book is from the Spragg Collection and is about how steam engines were used in early fire engines.
