When I need something to boost me up, I head down to my favourite takeaway Sushi GoGo (争鲜gogo) outlet at Woodlands MRT Station. The price of this Salmon Platter (S$14) bento had gone up a little but this is the reality everyone is facing around the world – increasing food prices. The 15 pieces bento comes with an equal number of Salmon Roe Gunkan, Grilled Salmon Belly and Salmon Sushi. 🍣

The Aburi Mentai Salmon comes in 8 pieces and cost S$8.50. The salmon sushi 🍣 is topped with a mixture of mayonnaise and mentaiko which is salted and marinated cod roe. A blowtorch gently sear the fish 🐟 and mayo to caramelize it. The result, creamy and smoky sushi filled the mouth with rich and umami flavours.

🍝 Omurice & Pasta Lunch in Kitano

After class, Ami and I went to a lovely little restaurant in Kitano for lunch. The menu had all sorts of comforting choices – omurice, pasta, spaghetti – the kind of place where everything looks tempting.

We decided to share, so we ordered the omurice with crab sauce and some mentaiko spaghetti. Both were absolutely delicious – rich, flavourful, and so satisfying. I also treated myself to a hojicha latte, which turned out to be the perfect cosy drink to go with the meal.

Good food, good company, and the charming atmosphere of Kitano – lunches like this really make the school week feel brighter.

karashi mentaiko spicy pollock roe udon

this is such a trust the process meal i’ve ever made!

ingredient list:

udon noodles

pollock roe

mayonnaise

milk

soy sauce

green onion

optional spice: garlic powder, black pepper and chicken seasoning

here’s how to make it:

boil your udon (if necessary) and save a little water

mix together milk and mayonnaise in a pan, lightly bring it to a shimmer.

add in the noodles and soy sauce

add chicken seasoning, garlic powder, and black pepper to taste

let it simmer till the sauce thicken and it coated the back of your spoon

turn the heat off and mixed in your roe, break up the sack. can be aggressive, it’s too tiny to bust like salmon roe

top with green onions and/ or strip nori (seaweed) and serve hot!

it’s not japanese authentic, i know!! but it tastes good and easy to make. for a more authentic version don’t use the spices i listed. instead use mirin and soy sauce, mix with kewpie mayo (milk or not is definitely dependent upon your preference) and serve with strips nori :)
