Radiant
An untitled poem for @the-arch-hive and Archtober day 1 - prompt "radiant"
---
Blood
and pain.
My empty womb clenches
and I cry out -
again - voice ragged by now.
But I keep my hands gentle
on my baby.
My son.
I look at Cain's tiny face
and I cannot imagine
missing the Garden.
Adam smooths my hair,
leans close, and whispers,
"You are radiant."
“There Came to My Window” @the-arch-hive Archtober 2023 Day 25 "Matriarchal" This song is one that has been passed down from my mother & grandmother. I first learned it on the recorder & singing, but today I am playing it on the cello, because this was my grandmother's cello. She started learning in her 70s, and when she died, it went to one of my nieces who was taking orchestra in middle school. When that niece got to high school, she decided she'd rather do choir, so now I have added cello to my repetoire.
Lyrics:
There came to my window
One morning in spring,
A sweet little robin,
She came there to sing.
The song that she sang,
It was prettier by far
Than ever was heard on
A flute or guitar.
And just as she finished
Her beautiful song,
A thoughtless young man with
A gun came along.
He killed and he carried
My robin away.
She'll never sing more at
The break of the day.
ARCHTOBER BAYBEEEEE!
I'm gonna be in-freakin-sufferable for a MONTH!
Except, perhaps, for the week I'll be lost at sea, but maybe I'll find a work around.
