Here’s the character sheet I made for Alies’s new design
the biggest change between his old design to this one is the arms. Alies always had prosthetic/robotic arms, but before they were not as pronounced as they are now. I took inspiration from the arms in the Alita movie, specifically the arms she had at the start, which had some translucent parts that I really liked.
For the rest of his outfit, I focused more on conveying all the different things Ardouino the god is responsible for, which are death, humanity (artistry like writing, singing, dancing, drawing, sawing, creating - what makes us human) and some sun symbolism to contrast Lakenya’s moon symbolism (sidenote I’m heavily debating whether I should change Lakenya’s spelling, because I pronounce it as Lykena, and I found a very early sketch of her with that spelling, but this post isn’t about her)
I had a lot of trouble with the mask, but eventually I settled on something quite similar to the original, as it helped tie in the death theme more.
The glowing parts in his outfit are an idea I got from someone in a discord server I’m in, and it made so much sense I’m a bit embarrassed I didn’t think of it myself lol. I mean, it makes him look so much cooler, and he’s in a futuristic setting, might as well show it.
To wrap this up, I’ll talk a bit about his face changes. Honestly, I cringe when I look at how I used to draw him a year ago, because he didn’t look black at all. I wanted to make it more clear, and hopefully this is showing his background better than before. I loosely based his face on an actor named Rome Flynn btw.
I like his design a thousand times more now, and in the end that’s what matters the most lol
