basically i opened a blog like today...and i wrote smth...so for people to see it, i would add tags that are appropriate for the work right? should i be able to see my own work when i search up the hashtag i put it under? or no. like how do i know the tags work... i’m new to this💔

hello nonie!! and yes, ugh, tumblr tags can really be an ass 😔✋🏻 but i do know a few things to do with the tags and don't be embarrassed about it!! i used to be so confused with this as well 😩😭
when it comes to tumblr's tagging system, it hides explicit words unless it's for trigger warning like [ tw.horny kana ] so yes, tumblr is pretty picky with your tags.
another is that the first ten tags you put in is what will show up in recent tags under that label and the rest after those tags shows up less in the recent dash page. it's confusing right? but always put in the tags you know a lot of people go through.
also, when your blog is fairly new, don't post your works immediately. this blog was also new before and it took me a week to finally post my work that reached a lot of readers, no matter how much i post my own content. try reblogging some works, or put in any random posts before puttinf out your prompts. it helps with increasing the possibility of having your post last in the recent dash page whenever you search it up.
