So that’s it, huh.
Mira does a better job at stifling her tears than Zoey, but she still feels a few warm drops run down her cheeks.
The hopes and dreams of being an idol at Sunlight Entertainment—hell, of being anything—are gone with a handwave from some guy in a suit and a paper that says “Thanks for auditioning”.
Before she can storm out as quickly as possible to save what little face she has left, Mira turns on her heel and freezes at the sight of Celine, the CEO of Sunlight Entertainment, watching her. That odd woman with the purple braid and mask floats behind her, eyes gleaming.
“Mira. Zoey.” Celine steps towards them. “Before you leave, I have an offer I’d like you to consider.”
Or: When Mira and Zoey, both running from difficult pasts, audition to become idols at Sunlight Entertainment (famous for its mysterious headliner idol Hunter) and fail, all hopes of meeting and training under Hunter go out the window until Celine makes them a different, surprise offer: train under Celine’s unknown ward Rumi instead.
(“Why us?” Zoey asks.
“Honestly,” Rumi says, “I think you're both really weird.”
Oh. Mira might kill her.)

silence, overwhelming, nothing but black and black and black and one speck of light in the distance and the faint flicker behind her of a dying dying dead star and silence and quiet and nothing nothing
One. Two. Three. Four.
She curls her hands into fists, fingers to palm, but feels only armor, cool to the touch, smooth, and foreign. So she opens her hands, flexes her fingers, and grimaces again.
Staring at the blue exoskeleton of the suit is jarring, just as staring through some sort of - glass? no, more durable - transparent material is unsettling. And familiar, but she brushes that thought aside and grips bedsheets that she can’t feel and stares blankly at the wall in front of her.
Kara closes her eyes and begins to internally count once more, but she can hear the faint echoes of her breathing in the helmet, and her heartbeat pulses in her ears, and before the edges of space creep back into her mind, she forcefully opens her eyes and goes back to staring at the blank wall.
After all, Alex isn’t allowing her to do anything else.
And rationally, Kara understands. She understands that her sister is scared, worried, and that she’s doing that stupid Alex thing (or, perhaps, shared Danvers sisters’ thing) of taking the world onto her shoulders. And being in charge of the D.E.O. certainly doesn’t seem easy, despite how effortless Kara once thought J’onn made it look. Alex is doing her duty as director and older sister, and Kara’s forced confinement is logical.
But the Danvers sisters aren’t prone to a lot of rationality, not when it comes to the safety of others, and Kara understands but she doesn’t, because National City is being threatened and Kara has the capacity and the ability to help and she can’t, because she’s trapped inside the D.E.O., inside the medical wing, inside this stupid worthless piece of -

The notification flickers in her vision, and Kara itches to brush it aside, but all that happens is a gloved hand tapping the side of her helmet, and she huffs in frustration.
And because huffing isn’t enough, she abruptly stands and begins to pace, from wall to another and back again, and again. Wall, heel, turn, walk, wall, heel, turn, walk, wall, heel, turn. Sounds from the rest of the D.E.O. flicker at the limits of her hearing, but they’re all muffled, underwater, muddied and jumbled, and she can’t make anymore sense of them than she can of Brainy on a tangent.
She paces, shoulders stiff and jaw clenched, and she stares at nothing but D.E.O. walls and does her best to tune out what little she can hear, including the faint lilt of Alex’s voice in the distance in conversation (maybe) with the soft, low tones of J’onn, and she takes her breaths. One, two, three -
she hears nothing in her ears, but her mind rings with screaming and pleading, echoes and cries for help mercy Rao save us and her parents’ watery smiles and encouragement because she will carry Krypton’s legacy, all of it, one entire planet and she only one girl with the weight of an entire world in her palms and the grief of an entire species in her tears
She’s stopped in the middle of the room, she’s not sure for how long. A shiver runs through her from head to toe, and when she sits back on the bed, she holds out her hands and sees them trembling, even through the thick padding of the gloves.
If she could just - if she could just do something, be allowed to help, to fight, instead of being trapped in this suit and in memories she’d rather never revisit, of a pod she hopes never to be in again.
Kara takes another breath and remembers Argo City, remembers her mother, remembers how much is not lost, how much more has been saved, of Krypton’s people and its culture and its history. And she thinks of how this time, when she woke up, she saw Alex’s face, not dark emptiness, and heard Alex’s voice, not deafening waves of silence.
And even if Alex is being a strangely rule-abiding Alex right now, she’s still Alex, and Alex is a million times better than alone.
So Kara goes back to staring once more, but her limbs are still, and her gaze is steely, and though she wants nothing more than to fight, to help, to be Supergirl, she will sit. She will sit, and she will wait.

She wants them.
She wants Mira and Zoey so badly, in whatever way, shape, or form that comes in.
For once in her life, Rumi wants to be selfish.
Or: HUNTR/X works towards sealing the Honmoon and falls in love along the way. Rumi, hiding both her patterns and her wants, loves her girls in whatever way she can until she's free. She just has to hold out until the Honmoon’s golden. Straightforward enough, right?

Ships: The Huntrix girls, can be read as Polytrix or platonic
After everything, the girls talk. It's messy (there's crying and anger and fear and love), and it ends with a promise: No more lies. It's only afterwards that Rumi thinks of her visit to Celine, and she very promptly decides NOT to share that particular experience with Mira and Zoey, content to let that little snippet of time die quietly in her memories alone (and really, what harm can one more lie be?). But, as Rumi has found out recently, her secrets have a way of coming to light, whether she wants them to or not.
(It starts with a visit from Celine.)
