Arghtober 15: Freedom

“Hey, look over there!”

“Happy New Year, and see you later, Old Night!” On Tristan Island, December 31st is celebrated as Old Year's Night, where people will wear silly outfits and make merry. Purpure's imaginary friend manifested for this.

Since they're in South Africa, it made sense for Bethany to have African detailing in her clothes. Though the white dress is based off of the one the Sea Heart wears in this particular episode, I changed the silhouette to a pannier dress.

The bluish circular patterns on Bethany's skirt are inspired by leteisi cloth, a kind of blue patterned cloth found in Botswana.

Arghtober 13: Reperant Corsair

“When will I get to go to sea again?”

Purpure hurt her hand as a teenager while under Lucinda's care. The full reason will be revealed in Squire of the Sea.

I found the word Reparant a difficult one to interpret. In French it appears to mean "observation" or "lookout", while in Latin it means "renew" or "revive".

As a result, I took it to mean a convalescent sitting around at home.

Arghtober 7: Dangerous Mermaid

“No, Purpure is not part mermaid. You must be cuckoo in clock to think of it.”

“But she swims very well, and sings just as great too.”

“I don't know what to make of you. She's la fatale, especially being Old Green Eyes' kid.”

Simon and Pierre started talking about the women they knew in their lives. Pierre is in awe of Lucinda and knew of the old lady's protectiveness, hence his remarks about la fatale.

Pierre isn't terribly familiar with English language idioms, and French idioms for being a nutter have nothing to do with cuckoos or clocks.

Arghtober 2: Shadows in the Fog

“How did pea soup fog get all the way here?”

An attempt at chiaroscuro. It was a learning experience, that's for sure.
