The Ari Saga: Oh, Boys

Decided the next iteration of The Ari Saga would be best posted on the twins’ birthday. This iteration just contains kids being kids. And Ari being an irritated little snot.

Spoilers for those who haven’t read the Trigun manga.

On July 21st, 2455, one of the onboard PLANTs gave birth to two male Independents. The crew members decide the best course of action is to eliminate them, but Rem gets in their way and convinces them to spare their lives. The two PLANTs are named Vash and Knives.

Needless to say, five year-old Ari wasn’t happy to have more people on the ship, and began to feel neglected as taking care of the twins became Rem’s priority. Additionally, Vash became almost immediately attached to Ari and began constantly seeking her attention. Little Vash always stopped crying when Ari held him, always followed her around, always wanted to play with her as he got bigger. Ari even had to share her room with the twins, because Vash would cry if she wasn’t in the bedroom with them and Knives would cry if Vash wasn’t in the same crib as him.

Needless to say, Ari quickly became irritated with Vash’s antics and kept pushing him away, only to be given a talking-to by Rem each time. As the boys developed more and more, Vash kept sneaking into Ari’s room to sleep in her bed with her, despite Ari throwing him out and Rem trying to create alternate sleeping arrangements so that Vash would stay in his own bed. None of these ended up working, and Ari eventually resigned to let Vash (and later Knives) snuggle her at night.

It was really just bitchy kid stuff, nothing that could be considered legitimately harmful. But just imagine that you're little Vash, who absolutely loves and adores this person despite having no idea what this feeling is called, running to them for comfort and sometimes begging them to pay attention to you because you need them to be there for you. Only for them to snap at you to leave them alone because they just...don't want to give you the love you seek. It hurts little Vash, sometimes to the point of tears. So he grasps at literally any positive attention Ari gives him...which is why he's such a huge simp in adulthood.

The Cupid AU returns! Eros Vash is back from a long Valentine’s Day and Psyche Ari is ready to thoroughly pamper him. He’s more than ready to lay back, relax and get some much-deserved attention.

The Cryptid AU is close to my heart because I feel like it's changed the most. It was the first Trigun fanfic I ever finished, and it's gone through the most work. I love my Cryptid Vash quite a bit. I actually wrote something about this one, if you felt like checking it out, but that particular story has since been retconned. It's still a fun little building block for the AU, tho. Maybe I'll post a rewrite of it.

I've also got a Cupid AU that I'm bringing back for Valentine's Day. Vash and Knives are Eros and Anteros respectively, and Ari is the Psyche that holds Vash together. Knives became disillusioned with humanity and abandoned his duties as a god in favor of driving everyone apart -- so now Vash is left to be constantly overworked and deal with the entire planet's love life on his own. Ari helps keep him organized and from going insane from overworking, and they have a bunch of Teru Vash "cupids" to help out. Vash loves the little guys. They're like little puppies with wings.

There's another one where Vash and Knives live together as rich, young noblemen who provide a secluded town with a lush, green environment to live in. Little do the townspeople know that the handsome brothers must consume the flesh and blood of humans in order to sustain the environment. One night, Ari wakes up in the manor’s garden with no memory of how she got there, and meets Vash when she tries to find her way out. Vash, having not been allowed to leave the property for decades, is smitten with her and begs her to stay and regale him with stories of her travels.

As I'm reading through my list I've realized that some of them are either probably too self indulgent for Tumblr or they're a level of drama that idk if I wanna put up on my social yet. But we'll see.

I think Legato would be so used to Vash’s unwillingness to kill that when he finally faced Ari, he’d be woefully unprepared for the amount of damage she’s willing to cause.

And believe me. When Vash is involved, this woman can hold a grudge like you wouldn’t believe.
