The last roll of film I developed had a substantial amount of base fog, and on top of that, especially when I screwed up and overexposed. The result is that the negatives were so dark that my scanner had issues getting a picture out of it. For those shots, some of the shots were super grainy, and had very little dynamic range. The results are... interesting.
Some thing about these shots though reminded me of Pictorialism, a movement from the later 19th and early 20th centuries. The limited dynamic range, and de-emphasis on detail in favor of form and shape.
I don't know if I like it, but it's definitely a vibe. I kinda feel like if someone were trying to do this intentionally, it could be done to great artistic effect, but I also feel like I'm very much not that person.
Something about it feels kinda surreal, and sometimes it works. Most of the time, though, it's an unbearable mess.
That's it! I thought this was a little cool and hope someone finds this interesting.

New camera. And it's one I never thought I'd have. Behold, the Canon AE-1 Program
To add to the general basic-ness of the camera, It also came with the 50mm f/1.8. One unique thing, however, and the thing that really interested me, is the data back. You'll see those cheeky little numbers on every shot.
One thing I didn't anticipate enjoying as much as I did, however, is the eponymous program mode. The simplicity of just focusing, and bang, taking the shot, is something I normally reserve for digital. I get the appeal of this camera. It's easy to grab and shoot, nice and casual.
The 50mm is exactly what everyone thinks of it. It's sharp across the frame. and performs well at all apertures.
Nice to get out with a camera on a good, sunny day too. I missed this during the winter. Overall, it's a great camera, and while I definitely still think it's overhyped, I get it. It's a nice piece of kit.
Will I keep it? Right now I'm leaning towards no. There just isn't really a place in my life right now for a big 35mm SLR. While I'm tempted to hold onto it just in case. I also feel like it should go to someone who will use it well.
Shooting the 6x9 Voightlander Bessa RF again. I don't know how I feel about this camera, all in all. It's definitely fun to shoot, but more fun as my other MF cameras. I like the big negatives, but I'm not sure if I like them enough to go from 12 to 8 shots.
Who knows. Maybe I'll keep it, maybe I won't.
The big thing is, I don't do any of this professionally, and it honestly comes down to having fun for me. Is this camera more fun to shoot than, for instance, my TLR? I don't think so. While I do get along with rangefinders, I think In terms of shooting experience, nothing beats a ground glass.
I think the big thing stopping me from selling it right now is slide film. I've always heard that big slides are a special experience, and I want to give it a go. Might as well, right?
