Framus was a german company. Around the late 1950's, English company beason (could have name wrong), employed framus to make some guitars in their german factory. They were given odd names and sold. 'The Aristone' was one of them and thought to be around 1958.
Here's how I ended up with the guitar:
When I was 17, maybe 18 (1998), the fashion was all about house parties. It was great. Parents away, party time. This was no exception. Drunk as usual and out comes the guitar. But this one was different. Didn't sound all that but played reasonable. It was left leaning up against the table. Someone knocked it. It fell to the ground and as it did it collapsed and folded in half, the neck being ripped off the body. Horror!
I felt so bad for the guy (I didn't knock it over), i offered to buy it. Gave him £20 for the pile of guitar and off I went.
The neck wasn't snapped or anything. The glue must have dried out over time. Didn't take long to glue the neck back on, string it up and it was back making noise again.
Went in the garage and left. Around 2005 maybe we decided to renovate it. The front had been varnished, badly, so we stripped it back as best we could and left naturally and oiled. The metal parts were also re-chromed.
One thing left to another and the project was abandoned and it stayed in the garage until last weekend.
Going to blog my journey revamping a very old guitar!
