Both orphans raised in a harsh environment
Both encountered child neglect and abuse (Wrio being adopted by the pair who does child trafficking and Arle literally being a part of Fatui since day one).
Both killed their “parental figure” - Wrio did that when found out what his adoptive parents did and Arle fought the previous Knave.
Both fought to get the position of power they have now (both literally and figuratively) and both have a lot of blood on their hands
Both changed said cruel environment around them with their power so it could become more of a safe space (sort of, because Meropide is a place where the Duke has the ultimate power and he prevents bad things from happening and House of the Hearth is a place where Arle rises kids so she indeed makes it a safe place as much as she can minus the whole Fatui thing)
Both have a reputation of “somehow scary and ruthless guy you don’t wanna mess with”

Both make their “scary guy” reputation work on them to keep everything in check and literally give no fucks about what people think of them as long as it makes them behave. Like Wrio doesn’t stop people from thinking anything abt him as long as they don’t break the rules and respect his boundaries and Arlecchino’s “zero fucks given, let them talk so I could use the reputation they built for me” attitude is right there

Also the underworld motive? The whole “death with a scythe” Thanatos vibes I get from Arle and Wrio’s Cerberus-esque aesthetics because he literally is the guardian of the underworld??? Meropide being said underworld, obviously
They also both have this “rebirth” motive on ‘em! Like Arle burns her kids memories to let them leave the House and Meropide being famous for being “it’s own world underwater” where people can start a new life!
I think those ^ parallels make them a very delicious duo even without romantic relationships involved. I imagine they have a lot of topics they can discuss and hhhhh literally no one can understand Arle’s situation better than Wrio and vice versa, just because there are So Many Parallels.
Also Wrio telling Clorinde or Neuvi that he “made a new acquaintance!” and them being happy that he’s socializing! And then he brings The Knave with him on their meeting and they both go “what the Fuck” is an incredibly funny mental image wwwww.
