Parallel Lives: Elizabeth I, Sansa Stark & Daenarys Targaryen
Appearance: Elizabeth had flaming red hair and typical Tudor features, she inherited from her father Henry VIII.
Daenarys’ white-blonde hair and violet eyes are proof of her Targaryen roots.
Sansa’s hair is an auburn red, inherited from her mother’s side, House Tully. She shared the same traits as Catelyn and her brother Robb, who was King of the North.
Heritage: Elizabeth’s grandfather Henry VII, had a slim claim to the English throne, but amassed a foreign army to defeat Richard III and claim the throne.
Daenerys’ ancestor Aegon Targaryen, was a foreigner, who conquered the Seven Kingdoms.
Parents: Her father was King Henry VIII, her mother was his second wife, and was beheaded on his orders, when Elizabeth was a toddler. When he died, Elizabeth was looked after by her step-mother and her husband.
Daenarys’ father was King Aerys Targaryen. He killed a great many people, and abused his wife. Her mother died not long after Dany was born. She and her brother relied on the protection of strangers.
Sansa was the second legitimate child of Eddard of House Stark. Her mother had her throat cut by men who were once loyal to her father. With her father dead as well, Sansa has had to rely on those she does not trust, to bring her back to Winterfell, to regain her rightful place.
Siblings: Elizabeth had two half-siblings Mary and Edward. Her relationship with her sister was turbulent, with Mary even imprisoning Elizabeth for treason. Edward became king at a young age, and died not long after.
Daenarys’ had a strained relationship with her brother Viserys, who was killed by her husband Khal Drogo.
Sansa and her sister Arya often quarrelled, and though she was unkind to her brother Jon Snow, they have since made amends and joined forces.
Unwanted Attention: When her father died, a young Elizabeth was looked after by her step-mother Catherine Parr, who soon married Thomas Seymour. Seymour, had supposedly wanted to marry Elizabeth to elevate his position, and was reported to have visited Elizabeth’s rooms at night. An embrace between the two was witnessed by Catherine, who sent the girl away. Catherine died soon after, days after the birth of her daughter. It was rumoured that Thomas had poisoned her leaving him free to marry Elizabeth.
Sansa Stark escaped King’s Landing, and found refuge with her aunt Lysa, who soon after married Petyr Baelish. Petyr admired Sansa, and kissed her on occasion. Lysa caught them in the act, and blamed Sansa. Petyr then killed Lysa by throwing her out of the moon door. He has since told Sansa of his intention to marry her, and make them rulers of Westeros.
Marriage & Children: Elizabeth never married, refusing to bow down to pressure from her council. She was said to have taken various lovers including Sir Robert Dudley and Robert Dereaux. Elizabeth did not bear any children.
Viserys arranged the marriage between Daenarys and Khal Drogo. During their union, she became pregnant with a son. She lost both husband and son and was told she could not bear anymore children. Instead she would help raise three dragons.
Sansa has been betrothed to a king, but married his uncle Tyrion and later forced to marry Ramsay Bolton to secure her home of Winterfell. Sansa will not want to be sold off to another husband,
Army: As Queen of England Elizabeth was in control of a vast army. During her reign, her troops defeated the Spanish Armada.
Over the seasons, Daenerys has forged a large army of Unsullied, Dothraki and Ironborn. Her armada now sails to Westeros in order to defeat Queen Cersei.
As rulers of the North, Sansa and Jon control the Northmen, the Freefolk and the Night’s Watch. Sansa also acquired the loyalty of the Knights of the Vale, who saved the day during the Battle of the Bastards.
