Visiting artist: Armenoui 16-11-16
Today we had a visiting artist: Armenoui K Saraidari. To be completely honest I was not totally sure whether I sound go to her talk. I still had a lot of work to do and she did not necessarily sound like someone who did work that I could use for my project. However, I could not stand not going and risk the change of missing something that might be important. Hence, I went and it actually was a very interesting talk. I liked how committed she was to her work and how much of herself was in it. She is Armenian and she used that a lot. Her project is about the identity of the Armenians after they have been deported from their land. She also worked on Hahnlemule paper. The same paper as I want to use. After she prints her pictures she used white paint and water to damage them. This I find extremely interesting and inspiring. Maybe it is something that I can use with my prints as well! Especially because the girl had told me that her depression feels like being surrounded by a thick fog. The paint on the Hahnemule paper definitely looks like thick fog. Hence I think I can really use this idea for my project. Part of me does not like the fact that I did not come up with the idea myself, but I will use it very differently and for different reasons than Armenoui. I am looking forward to give this experiment a try. I have tried to find some of her images that are damaged by paint only, but I could not find them, otherwise I would have shown them here.
