2 people. One forces (physically, behaviourally or emotionally) the other to have sex. What do you call it? Rape, right? Only, if they were married, what difference would it make? It’s still non-consensual. It’s still unwanted by one. It’s still Rape. Albeit, Marital Rape. When you marry, you don’t sign a contract saying “my partner owns my body & can use it as he/she deems ‘useful’ “; then where does ‘obligation’ come up from? Is marrying someone a favour done to them, or a loan that they have pay back with their body? Then why speak of marriage & sex in the same breathe? The act of marrying only builds the foundation of a relationship which is further strengthened by respect & trust; then love (maybe) & then only do carnal indulgences find a place, ideally. I wonder what those ‘married’ people think when they force themselves upon their partners; that marriage gives them the ‘Right to have Sex’? Sex without consent is rape; hence a criminal offence; & what, marrying sanctifies it??? Tsk tsk. Law? Yes there should be; but wait a sec… isn’t there a law against Dowry? Tell me, how many incidences are reported? & how many of them are false? Now take Marital Rape…how many people will file a case against their own spouse? (Considering that family’s izzat/honor comes first rather than a member’s dignity, many-a-times) All in all, this is a debate that should have a definite end (that NO sex isn’t an obligation in marriage; YES, marital rape IS rape; YES, there should be a law against it). But, as I like to think of Life in general, there’s not much that is black or white; most of it is gray, in a million different shades; & so is this topic; else it won’t be Debate-ed, would it be?
