aromantic sirius headcanon
• he learnt he was going to grow up, marry a pureblood girl, fall in love with her, and produce a Black heir ever since he was able to understand words.
• but when he was a first year, sirius realised that he didn’t give a damn if she was a pureblood girl or a half-blood or a muggleborn. however, sometimes, he would think about not getting married at all and staying forever young.
• in his fourth year, whenever he thought about love and relationships and marriage (which was a lot because his parents kept bringing it up and it was horrible) he felt like there was something bad about it, until he fooled around with that cute ravenclaw boy and mckinnon at the same time and realised that he didn’t care if it was a pureblood or a muggleborn, or a girl or a boy.
• marlene mckinnon was beautiful and amazing, and james always encouraged him to get with her in an official way. and they did it: they dated for three weeks before she broke up with him because “i don’t know why, but this just isn’t working out. it’s like, you’re not really interested in this as much as i am and i—”
• he dated frank longbottom, and broke up with him a month later.
• in fifth year, sirius went out with fabian prewett for two whole months before they just unofficially broke up by not having enough time for each other and forgetting that they were actually dating in the first place. “how did it even happen?” lily asked him when he told her about it all, but he didn’t know how to answer her.
• sixth year came by and sirius found himself writing a letter to his mother and father after over a year of not speaking to each other, ever since he ran away. “i decided to let you know, in case you still care about knowing how life is going for me, that everything is great and i’m very gay and very happily dating a man.”
• remus lupin. his initials were carved by sirius on a lot of desks but james’ and peter’s were, too. sirius thought about him all the time when they were apart, but james and peter and regulus were on his mind as well.
• he loved remus more than anything in the whole world. remus’ lips were the best thing he ever tasted. remus’ happiness was the reason he was happy and half of the time, he did stupid things just to impress remus. he loved him from the bottom of his heart but —
• something was wrong. he loved him, but he wasn’t in love with him? he couldn’t help it. he tried, but he couldn’t.
• and when they broke up, they remained as close as ever. sirius wasn’t hurt at all that remus broke up with him and for some reason, they kept kissing and fooling around occasionally and they were always comfortable and happy around each other and this wasn’t what usually happens, right?
• “if two people break up and remain friends, then they either are still in love or were never in love with each other,” james told him, and then went on about lily and lily and lily. he rambled about lily and his feelings towards her and how they are developing and it hit sirius that
• he wasn’t in love with remus and he will never be in love with him or anyone else for this matter because, fuck, he loves the idea of love. he writes poems about it and he secretly coos when james ramble about lily and loves setting people up (his exes, to be more exact. frank with alice. marlene with mary. fabian with life.) but he isn’t interested in falling in love, getting an official partner, marriage, romance, and all of that shit.
• he was in it for the sex, for friendship, for fun, and for being his parents’ worst expectations.
(and he came out and everyone was chill af and he was occasionally like sighs why why why but most of the time he was like fukc yes i loev being aro af fuck u all and everyone lived happily ever after and sirius was never restricted or tied down.)
Aro Sirius
-Sirius never quite understood all the fuss about romance and finding The One. I mean, as a kid, he always thought it was something for when he was older.
-However as he got older, he still did not find any particular interest in dating and doing romantic things. He loved making out-that was the only redeeming part of all that fuss he thought.
-In fifth year, when all James talked about was Evans and how he wanted to take her on dates, hold her hand, kiss her or that that romantic shit, Sirius thought he was exaggerating. Why would anyone want to do that willingly.
-then Peter started going out with Mary McDonald And Remus and him were the only one who were single among the Marauders. (Tho the tawny haired boy refused to date bc of his lycanthropy. It took loads of time for Reg and Moony start dating)
-by that time Sirius realised that his friends were probably not exagerrating anything and actually like doing those romantic things.
-he thought maybe his parents’ marriage was so bad that he was marked for life and that was why he did not like the same things as his friends.
-desperately he decided to go out with Marlene McKinnon. She was pretty fun and he liked her as a friend already.
-so they snogged in cupboards, behind the greenhouse at first and making out eventually
-however there was also the last where Marlene wanted to spend time with him. Just like that-holding hands, eating from the same plate and all that
-finally they broke up after some time. Sirius was almost ashamed to find himself more relieved than anything.
-after Hogwarts and whne he finally learnt how to use the internet, he discovered the term Aro.
-and god was he so relieved. He was not an anomaly and nothing was broken with him
-he was still reading about (there’s so much) and allowing himself to be who he was
-he no longer tried to make a conscious decision to have a crush. He no longer tried to ‘make things work’.
