Hello! I made a survey about aromantic representation in media! It’s not that long, only a couple pages. you’ll be done in a jiffy (unless you have adhd, then clear your calendar for the next week /j)
I’m a story-teller and I want to create an aromantic story, but I am nothing but one person with one personal experience so i need other people’s brains to help me.
uhh, please do it and i’ll send you a picture of a bear sitting oddly on a rock if you ask nicely <3
***SURVEY HAS BEEN CLOSED***
PLEASE GO TO @all-of-the-aromantic-characters FOR MORE CONTENT
SUMMARY OF RESULTS WILL IN ALL LIKELIHOOD PROBABLY BE POSTED SOON (most likely in 2022, yes i have adhd)!!
Aro-spec Identities and Experiences of Stigmatization 2019 Survey Results
The results are here!
Thank you very much to everyone who participated and waited for us to run our analyses. Huge thank you to @aromagni for helping with this.
The survey covered aro experiences of stigmatization and microaggressions. It was a follow-up survey to one run in 2018 by the same name. You can find results for that one in three parts: one, two, and three.
There were 358 responses to the survey. 240 of these responses were complete - these participants completed the survey in its entirety. The vast majority of respondents indicated they are aromantic or aro, followed by queer and aro-spec. More specific labels such as greyromantic, oriented aro, and et cetera were also present but not as common as the general ones. Most respondents were young (under 30 years old), non-binary/genderqueer, and white. This means the data in this survey was skewed towards these demographics and the results are not representative of the whole community.
No (n=0) participants indicated that they Never experienced any microaggressions against them personally at all. The top three most often experienced microagressions were:
I have felt alienated by society because I am aromantic
Others have told me that there is no such thing as discrimination or prejudice against aromantic people
I have felt alienated by LGBTQ+ or queer communities because I am aromantic
The top three most distressing microaggressions were:
I have been propositioned for a romantic relationship because I am aromantic
I have been threatened with harm because I am aromantic
People have not respected by aromantic identity (e.g., did not acknowledge boundaries, repulsion, etc.)
The most frequently reported discriminatory behavior toward aromantics was having the aromantic identity been made fun of, ridiculed, or been belittled by media or society at large (mean=4.21/6, a lot). The least frequently reported discriminatory behaviors toward aromantics were being denied a raise and being denied a job (mean=1.03/6, almost never)
Some aros with specific identities seemed to experience certain microaggressions more often than aros with other identities. Abroromantics, demiromantics, and nebularomantics seemed to be affected most.
This is a survey for Aromantic or Aro-spec people. If you are not aro-spec (and this includes non-aro ace and ace-spec people) do not take the survey, but please share it. This survey is completely anonymous.
Hello aros! Can you do this survey please?
It's anonymous and you can choose not to disclose on any question.
It was created to collect data on the issues aros face.
aromantic views on umbrella terms survey write up: part one
This survey was made (a... long time ago..) to asses which umbrella term aro people like, whether LGBT etc. or an alternative like queer. 709 people completed it! Plus one obvious troll, for full disclosure, whose response I deleted. The results are below:
(This write up is the quick version, not including people’s comments. A longer version will be up soon but I though people would be most interested in this info)
The first six questions all asked how respondents felt about specific words or terms, and whether they felt included solely on basis of aromantic identity.
1. When you see the word ‘gay’, do you assume that includes you?
Yes, but only due to one or more of my other identities = 29.8%
Yes, this word implies inclusion of my aro(spec) identity = 10.4%
No = 59.8%
2. When you see the word ‘queer’, do you assume that includes you?
Yes, but only due to one or more of my other identities = 8%
Yes, this word implies inclusion of my aro(spec) identity = 81.7%
No = 10.3%

No = 4.2%
5. When you see the term ‘LGBTQIAP’, or any other extended version of the LGBT acronym, do you assume that includes you?
Yes, but only due to one or more of my other identities = 4.2%
Yes, this word implies inclusion of my aro(spec) identity = 92.9%
No = 2.8%
6. When you see the term ‘MOGAI’, do you assume that includes you?

No = 2.5.8%
Please expect a post on later questions soon! It;s been hard to get this written up and posted but I am trying my hardest to do so.
Aro-spec identities and experiences of stigmatization survey
As a follow up to last year’s survey of the same name, I want to poke the aro community with a new, improved, expanded survey that is more inclusive. This time around, I have Magni (@aromagni) collaborating with me (huge thank you to zem for being an awesome research partner).
Anyone who identifies with the aro community in some way, including grey and questioning people, is welcome to take this survey.
Participating in this survey is, as always, completely optional. If you wish to stop participating at any time, you may do so, for any reason.
This survey will ask you about your experiences with microaggressions, oppression, and stigmatization as an aro. Therefore, some of the questions may be distressing for you. You have every right to stop participating or to not participate at all if you are uncomfortable.

Feel free to boost this survey on other channels. If you do, please include the blurb above.
