Summary: WEN QING: You don’t seduce people, you find the business majors and try to get them to join a multi level marketing scheme. And then you eat them. Kay's comments: I had a blast reading this. Never watched What We Do In The Shadows, so I was going in blind and prior knowledge is definitely not needed to have a lot of fun reading this fic. Excerpt: [CUT TO: talking head WEN QING’s bedroom is sparse, but lived-in, brighter than Lan Wangji’s, darker than Wei Wuxian’s. Despite not needing it, the bed is also made, with barely a speck of dust on it.] WEN QING: Yeah, I have the most sex in this house. [CUT BACK TO: present day We are filming from the vampires’ front porch as we did not want to trespass on this new neighbor’s property. We watch as WEN QING looks over the house—a light on the second floor is clearly on. Wen Qing rings the doorbell; shortly after, a young woman answers the door. They talk for several minutes. The neighbor laughs at something Wen Qing says. Wen Qing smiles at her. Approximately 12 minutes later, she comes back.] WEN QING: (smirks at the camera) What did I say? I have to do everything around here.

man! still thinking about the insanely sexy D/s modern au basketball fic....... @ whoever wrote get wild.... thanks & i love you
(edit: @ aroceu.... thanks & i love you)
hey, i saw the response you made to robininthelabyrinth's post - unfortunately, a lot of the backlash isn't about the fic, but a lot of things that they said/posted about taoism & mdzs before the fic was actually posted. things like "it's generic fantasy" & "exactly zero references to Taoist texts or customs or culture" plus an issue this fandom had just a month ago. i'd be happy to provide more context haha but just wanted to let u know that the issue's a lot less actually about the fic itself!
i agree that the responses were dismissive and they walked that back, so i didn’t feel the need to respond to it-- but the majority of the pushback is absolutely against the fic itself and i think the constant moving of goalposts is really messed up.
it’s not generic fantasy, but they’re right that xianxia is about as catholic as robin hood; robin hood is VERY catholic. mdzs itself is steeped in taoism in a way that’s impossible to sever from the background, and op didn’t attempt to do that at all-- they didn’t replace taoism with judaism, but explored how they would grow together, and i personally think that’s cool. i think you’re seeing a different part of the discourse than i am, because i’m seeing a lot of calls to delete the fic for ‘erasure of chinese religion and identity’, which is really wild coming from people who didn’t bother to read or assumed it was written with spite, when the author has posted about how excited they are to depict this
regardless, even the author of mdzs herself said she’s not particularly interested in taoism other than as a backdrop for her story, because it CAN be a very secular genre thing. it’s not some sort of sacred ancient art; it’s a part of the culture that can be both silly & meaningful to many different people & interpreted in a lot of different ways.
all i have to say is: read it. and THEN decide whether or not it’s worth getting mad about, because all i’m seeing is blatant misinformation
yeah, honestly. i think what happened is we were talking about cosmological theories and this one kid who i liked bc he always participated in class discussions mentioned some whacky multiverse shit?? and i was like HUH and he says it’s from rick and morty, and i’m like “oh, i don’t know what that is” and then his friend goes yeah what is it (potentially fucking about, worse poker face than i) and he’s like omg it’s the best show in the universe and i was like ... good call past me
reevaluating our friendship since u eat mayo out of the jar
