Basically, changelings are from folklore, and the idea is that a human baby was replaced with a fairy child. The fairy child would be known as a “changeling” and could be recognized by a variety of unusual features. Some people think that the idea of a changeling was a way to explain developmentally or sometimes physically disabled children.

Historically, a lot of people would kill or abuse the “changeling” in the hopes of getting their “real child” back, which echoes a lot of the ableism directed at disabled children today.

The concept of changelings was used as an excuse to hurt disabled people historically, but I like the idea of reclaiming the term. I know it is a common trope to paint autistic people as being non-human, and I understand why some autistic people are uncomfortable with that. I am also uncomfortable with it in some contexts. However, I do still like and relate to the idea of being a fairy/alien/etc living amongst humans, and between that and the strong interest in fantasy I have/had as a child, I like and relate to the concept of a changeling in some ways.

Yeah I definitely have this fear too, this is why I’m doing it on a sideblog ^^ Romance has become so linked to people’s beings, they feel personally attacked when you so much as mention amatonormativity.

I felt it was necessary for my own well-being, to be able to express my feelings on the subject, so I thought it could help other aros too.

Heh, hate messages just make me laugh. (I’m a female btw, lol).

How, you ask? Because, simply shipping two fictional characters doesn’t hurt anyone, whether they are considered “pedophilic” or not. It only hurts people if they take it personally, for whatever reason they can come up with.

I don’t understand the outrage of someone shipping two characters, when there are real life sexual predators out there actually hurting children, yet they insist on attacking an innocent person online over what they ship in a cartoon of all things? I would like that logic explained.

Someone who ships an underage character with someone 18+ doesn’t make them a pedophile. There are MANY kids and teenagers who ship that stuff, and a vast majority of haters don’t get that.

What makes a pedophile a pedophile, though? Well, the sexual attraction to actual young children is only a part of it. There are pedophiles who keep it to themselves and don’t hurt anyone whatsoever. Then you have the ones who do go after children, the literal scum of the Earth. No where, that I’ve seen, has said that any of these people became pedophiles and/or sexual predators through cartoons. It’s something that just develops over time for one reason or another.

Shipping cartoon characters, however, does NOT make you a pedophile. Nor does it give you pedophilia. It’s like any other mental disorder, though it can have horrible consequences, unlike a lot of others.

Hey you should add Will Jay's "Never Been In Love" to the aro playlist! It's a song about how he's never been in love (of course) but it's happy and upbeat, essentially about not caring about romance.

I should! I looked up the lyrics a few weeks ago and personally didn’t see the aro tones to it, but I think I just had a misread. Also, the song is great and lots of aros really connect with it. I’ll put it on there asap!
