Hearing about your heart break makes me so glad to be aromantic
I’m acearo and, in light of the Discourse, I’ve started to feel very isolated from the community as a queer woman who isn’t into other women. It’s really interacting with my mental health badly, and I’ve started to wonder if I’m “opting into oppression” as they say* or if I should try to force myself to like other women to feel like I count. I dunno, I’m just really frustrated and miss feeling accepted by the community
Oh nonnie, you should never have to force yourself to be something you’re not to try and be accepted by others. You are loved and valid as a queer woman who isn’t into other women and I don’t think there’s a single person in the world who would willingly opt into being oppressed when it can have such negative effects on your mental health.
You are always welcome here and if you haven’t yet looked into it, there are other online resources for aroaces who I’m sure would be more than welcoming for you; and if you’re looking for something in the outernet, there could be some public groups in your area who would love to have an amazing aroace join their ranks.

If you think you’re asexual or think it fits right now, you can use that label for your identity no matter how young you are. And if you learn later you’re not asexual and figure out a different part of your identity that’s okay, too.
The same goes with identifying as aromantic. You can use the label now even if you learn that doesn’t fit you later down the line. Figuring out your identity is complicated and pretty much never ends as frustrating as that might sound.
I think all sexualities and identities have their difficulties and each person is different when figuring themselves out. For some people it might seem easier than others. A big part of where frustration comes from in asexual identities is the assumption of being straight and lack of ace representation in media.

I'm Aro Ace. There's only I think 1 or 2 people who know. I want to fall in love, so I write fanfictions about romance, hoping that would happen to me. But I don't want to do anything with anyone. I came out to my friend as quoiromantic the other day and she said "oh yeah thats a totally normal thing everyone experiences that to some degree" and I just feel really idk, invalidated? I feel like she isnt taking me seriously tbh.
Most of the time I am at peace with being aromantic. But recently i moved away from my support network & am now surrounded by people who don't know I am aro & who are either constantly pursuing relationships for themselves or asking me if I'm single/why I'm not dating anyone. And I am suddenly drowning in old insecurities again: that i'm too immature/unworthy/broken to be deserving of that kind of love. I don't want romance, I just want friends but now I'm wondering if I even deserve that.
