Rehearsal Dinner: Oliver asks Felicity to marry him and she says no. (The Olicity Theme softer beats / The One I Love). The use of the ‘original’ Olicity Theme here is fitting, since this tune debuted in 2x23 when Oliver first said he loved Felicity, and then was reprised in 3x01 when they took the first step to pursue a romantic relationship. As per usual, this melody reflects the mix of both hope and agony in this conversation, with Oliver acting in hope and Felicity responding in fear. They have reversed roles of where this story began in 3x01.

Star Labs: Oliver and Felicity hash out their feelings about marriage. (Someone You Love). The use of this purely angsty melody that gives one 3x12 alleyway flashbacks is appropriate, since Oliver has lost his hope of ever marrying Felicity.
Reunited: Oliver says he doesn’t need to be married–he just needs to be with her. They kiss under the hood (The Olicity Theme crescendo / Convince Him). The use of the Olicity Theme here is fitting for a number of reasons. For one thing, the kiss they share here parallels the kiss they almost shared (deleted scene) in the Queen mansion hallway in 2x23. Oliver’s dialogue here also parallels much of the dialogue he’s used in the past when he’s making sure Felicity’s okay–from 1x17 to 2x07, etc. At their core, Oliver has always needed Felicity to be safe, and she has always needed to be with him. And so it’s also fitting that Oliver recites lines similar to the ones Felicity once said to him in that hallway–I WANT TO BE WITH YOU. But it’s also important that the happiest and most hopeful line of melody from all variations of the Olicity Theme is played here–the oboe line. This melody is their beacon of true bliss and true love–first heard in the paramount 3x20 episode and most recently during the “officially back together” moment of 6x03.
Marriage: Outside of 2x23 and 3x20, if there was ever a more fitting time to play the Olicity Theme, the final scene of the crossover, during Felicity’s proposal and Oliver’s vow, this is it. (The Olicity Theme crescendo / Convince Him). We’ve come so far–through agony and hope, but now we have arrived. Now these three things remains: faith, hope and love. And the greatest of these is love.
