It was customary in these times to arrange marriages between countries. As neither the heir to each civilizationâs monarchy was of marrying age, the leaders of each country decided that their highest ranking warriors would be wed instead. The marriage, of course, was arranged between Link and Revali to unite the military front of both Hyrule and the Rito. Princess Zelda was too young to be married off and was already arranged to unite with the Gerudo Chief, Urbosa, once she was of age. The Zora and the Goron were already long-standing allies of Hyrule, so no marriage contract was necessary there. We are now brought to the first meeting of the Hylian Champion and the Rito Champion, to see if they would be compatible. Both were expected and ordered to make this marriage work, at least on a public face.
Link seemed a bit nervous to meet this supposed Rito Warrior. How could he not be nervous? He was sure that she would be a strong and good pair for him. King Rhoam would not make a fool of him, the appointed Knight to guard Princess Zelda. He was only temporarily allowed to leave her side to meet with Revali, âWhat a cute name, I wonder if sheâs super cute. I mean, she is a Rito, but those feathers look so soft, and supposedly we can still have kids or whatever... so the marriage wonât be a total flop on a familial sense, right? Hmm... what colour are her feathers...â  He seated himself at the table and fidgeted, leg bouncing as he picked up some snacks and started nibbling on a cracker, trying to not worry too much about making a bad first impression. His Majesty made it very clear that he was to do anything possible to make this marriage work, and was assured that the pair of them would function well together in battle if need be. He wondered what the king meant by that.
He had cleaned himself up, hair down, wearing a neatly pressed tunic with freshly shined boots. It felt odd to be this well kept, and it felt odd to have his hair down, but the Princess assured him that he looked less like a rowdy mess with his hair dusting his shoulders like that. In actuality, the Princess had known that it made Link look even more androgynous and that both leaders on either side had agreed to not tell their best that the other on each side of the marriage what gender their arranged partner was to be, so she thought it best to allow for the most neutral appearance for Link... and insisted that he shave his unkempt stubble to look clean as well. Link didnât grow much facial hair, but it was getting unruly and patchy on his chin and upper lip, that it really did need to be shaved.Â
Link absently fiddled with his hair after finishing his little snack and got up to go look out and over the open balcony, not aware that it was a Rito entrance to their private meeting area. He looked out over the scenery surrounding Rito Village. It was breathtaking, and he smiled some, âI could get used to a view like this.â He leant on a post and bit his lower lip, allowing his imagination to wander, having seen a variety of Rito on his way up, and drew up an image that looked nothing like Revaliâs actual visage.
