“...just want to protect him. Why is that so hard?”
Your head snaps up from your keyboard, staring at an indeterminate point on the wall. What? No. No no no, You don’t know why the sound of his voice alarms you, but it does. You don’t even hit save on your project, and your wings bypass the whole “getting to your feet” thing, no, your chair topples over as you straight up take flight. These stupid castle walls are familiar to you and you soar through them, your red and blue lighting the halls in eerie relief. You felt the claws in your heart, as if it was happening to you. You have to get there in time. You have to.
Again, you don’t know why. He’s god tier, like you. You made him that way.
When you burst into the workshop, you’re just in time to see indigo blood splatter, a robotic arm through your kismesis’ back. He crumples to the ground and logic leaves you. You hiss, still suspended in the air. The robot gets grabbed in your psi, denting under the pressure. It collapses to the ground under the new gravity, only to crash into the ceiling with enough force to dislodge flakes of stone, and twice as much force denting it into the floor. A whirring mechanical noise, and it’s done for good. Your feet touch down to the ground and you go over at a rapid pace to the corpse on the floor.
With your shoe you kick him, a tactical move to get him onto his back from his face. Then you stand with your wings folded, arms crossed, and foot almost tapping. You’re waiting for him to revive, so you can bitch him out. Waiting on the little disco lightshow so you can grab him and berate him for being so shitty that a robot got him from behind.
As the minutes start ticking by, though, your aggression ebbs until a cold chill settles in your fingers and chest. He’s not reviving. Why isn’t he reviving? He’s god tier, damn it, there’s no way this chimed Heroic!
“Equiuth? Thith ithn’t funny.”
You’re a little pitched in voice. You drop to a crouch, hands going on him. The blue has spread out under him in an uneven pool now, unhealing. It’s dirtying your shoes and your heart’s crawling up into your throat.
“Equiuth??? C’mon, no, what are you playing at. There’th no way. There’th no fucking way, come on. Come ON!”
Your name is Sollux Captor, and you are not okay.
