Memory able of misdirection?
This weekend after going to the beach early in the morning my parents and i decided to go to the mall right after but as we were in our car on the way back. My mind was following the regular route home (as we need to take a different exit on the round-about to get to the mall) and i felt really weirded out when my mother did not take the first exit.
I did remember that we were supposed to go to the mall to buy stuff but somewhere in the process of me observing the road slide by, my memory sort of made me want to take the first exit- to home rather than the second one.
I think this is due to how many times i have droven this exact way back home and every single time i had taken the first exit, my mind simply didnt want me to try something new and i am sure that if i was the driver and not my mother, i would for sure have taken the first exit.
So, this made me speculate, can memory in certain cases make us shut down our sense perception and make us do things that come more naturally, perform actions that we are more used to?
(Because i clearly knew that this was not the way to the mall, i saw the road but my mind did not make a single association with that road being the right way to go. I just looked at the road as if it was any unfamiliar road.) If an action is repeated enough times, it gets hard wired into your memory and you dont seem to know any better.

Apollo Robbins: The art of misdirection
“Do you think it’s possible to control someone’s attention, or even their behavior? To me that would be the perfect superpower,” says Apollo Robbins at TEDGlobal 2013. ”I’ve spent the last 20 years studying human behavior in an unconventional way: by picking pockets.”
Robbins, whom The New Yorker called a “theatrical pickpocket” in their profile of him, is a magician who deals in tricks of attention, rather than in tricks with rabbits or disappearing boxes. He says, “When we think of misdirection, we forget that the things you see every day are the things we are most blinded to.”
