The final edition of books for my Art of the Book II class. A video page-through can be viewed here. The book is a narrative based on the process of falling asleep and abruptly waking. We had to choose from Julie Chen's Artist’s Book Ideation Cards and create a book from it. It had to include text based on the process of erasure, be highly colorful, have a minimal layout, use a digital technique, have abstract imagery, use transparent/translucent paper, and be bound with a single leaf structure. Text:
Twilight Calm before the storm The night quickly approaches Lying awake, confined by all four walls Staring blankly You begin to drop down Eyes flutter Heart beats slow Emptiness washes over you Swimming with thought, they too fall away Dropping down Unaware of your surroundings Vivid images before you People Places Things Faces you can't remember A beautifully lucid thing Another drop A darker place You can't feel your body A drop Dark emptiness Eyes flutter Heart beats quicken Twilight again

Cord bind from my Art of the Book II class [ART361.April.2015]
A demo book made in my Art of the Book II class; this time we did something called an Icicle Bind. My color scheme reminds me of the jungle rather than a tundra though haha ;) [ART361.April.2015]
The fourth artist book made in my Art of the Book II class This book was based around a random word from the dictionary, mine being "tafia"
TAFIA noun taf·ia \ˈtafēə\ A cheap rum distilled from molasses and refuse sugar in the West Indies [West Indian Creole, probably alteration of RATAFIA]
I didn't want to go super obvious with the rum thing, so when I think of old world rum I think sailing vessels and ship logs and pirate tales. I ended up doing a layered book dealing with a kraken and some mermaids. All I can say is god bless Cricut cutters Made with cardstock, faux leather, leather cord, a fancy button, binding thread, and a Cricut cutting machine. The bind is a modified pamplet stitch [ART361.March.2015]
The third artist book made in my Art of the Book II class The prompt for this project dealt with pagination and how the different pages interact with each other. I went for something simple: a mouse eating away at the "cheese" book. The farther through the book, the more holes there are The pages are monotype printed with two different colors and then waxed to feel like actual cheese. They feel real gross actually...like cheese that's been on the turn a bit too long haha Made with Mulberry paper, thicker textured paper, wax, and binding thread. The bind is a long stitch Images from before cutting the cover holes:
