artemis-devotee respondeu seu post: So, confessions of a second-language English...
my!Ash had to tell me that, but to be fair, she ACTUALLY EXPLAINED TO ME what the difference was sdkjfsdkjfdsf
My Ash tried, but my dumb ass could not.
To be fair, my dumb ass can’t entirely yet.
artemis-devotee replied to your post “amanda got some damn nerve talking about reel kat in when she’s defied...”
it was also a bit hilarious to see Olivia Margareth IMPULSIVE MF Benson telling KitKat she can't be impulsive bc it's dangerous. I get she's the boss now but lol
RIGHT. every single person on the squad in this precinct has done the most reckless of things every other moment. age and wisdom, I guess. lol
For the NOT FROM US asks! 1, 5, 7, 8, 13, 14, 16, 18, 22! ;D
*cracks knuckles* Okay! Let's begin!
(Just a disclaimer, I'm specifically a Malaysian with Indian origin, therefore my own culture and language is not native to my country. So just to be fair, I'm gonna keep these asks strictly Malaysian and Malay language oriented)
1. Favourite place in your country?
Place is rather specific, so I'm going with general states. Penang takes the entire cake in my books, I absolutely adore the place! Great food, great cultural history and so many different types of entertainment!
5. Favourite song in your native language?
I gotta confess I hardly listen to malay songs lol. I do love the indie side of music here, so anything by Pastel Lite, Bil Musa, etc., I enjoy.
7. 3 words from your native language that you like the most?
This is such a weird question lol SO, one thing I always love saying is, "Dipersilakan berambus" which kinda translates to "Feel free to fuck off." (But not as offensive, just kinda amusing) Otherwise, I also like to use Old Malay (kasi, peduli sama dia) bahasa istana sometimes when talking (its a section of Malay language that is reserved for royalty in Malaysia). Things like bathing (bersiram), eating (bersantap), resting (beradu).
8. Do you get confused with other nationalities? If so, which ones and by whom?
ALL THE FREKAIGN TIME. Okay so, Malaysia is a country that was established by people of various races, most importantly the big 4: Malays, Chinese, South Indians, Aboriginals and the Orang Asli of Malaysia. Now I'm a North Indian (A Gujarati specifically, and therefore speak Hindi and Gujarati and not Tamil like most of the Indians here).
Because I'm dark-skinned, I always, always am assumed to be a Tamilian by other Tamilians, and they immediately start talking to me in Tamil. I have had people publicly "shame me" for not knowing my mother tongue. It was annoying at first but I got used to it and don't let it bother me now lol.
13. Does your country (or family) have any specific superstitions that might seem strange to outsiders?
Malaysians LOVE their ghost stories. Supernatural phenomenons are a big thing here and it's not surprising to see some people follow a certain rule of doing things here, regardless of whether they personally believe in ghosts or not.
Things like, if you smell rotten flesh and immediately smell the scent of jasmine, don't turn around, walk away and say a silent prayer. Don't pick up random shiny things from the ground. Keep your windows closed at night.
Other small superstitions are, don't sing while cooking, don't cut your nails at night, don't whistle at night time. These all are said to cause bad luck, or might attract unwanted attention.
14. Do you enjoy your country's cinema/tv?
I'd be doing Malaysians a disservice by not mentioning the old cinema of this country. P. Ramlee movies in particular, always makes me happy and it has a special place in the hearts of all Malaysians.
16. Which stereotype about your country do you hate the most and which one do you somewhat agree with?
I hate that Malaysians are often assumed to be lazy. While there are a few of them, we shouldn't all be painted as good-for-nothing when so many people I know here work day and night to reach their goals, provide for their family and self.
Which ones do I somewhat agree with? Bad drivers lol. At least in KL. The traffic there is insane and then you have those impatient people that try to cut lanes when its not even possible to cut, and it makes the whole thing worse.
Malaysians are also stereotyped to be very warm and welcoming, and that one I agree with wholeheartedly.
18. Do you speak with a dialect of your native language?
I speak in the standard, neutral Malay. But sometimes I have the Negeri Sembilan dialect slip in once in a while. Oh well, once a ngeri, always a ngeri.
22. What makes you proud about your country? What makes you ashamed?
I'm very proud of how much this country has modernized and yet still hold their culture very dear. It's a perfect blend and of technological advancement and yet maintaining their roots, values and culture. Respect and family is still very much a big thing here, and I'm glad for that.
One thing I don't like is our current political and social climate. The right wing, prmo-islamic and anti-lgbt views (to just list some of them), is doing more harm than good, and it's caused a lot of rifts between people. It's a big cesspool that I don't like, but it needs to be acknowledged and worked on.

For the dragon song, I'm sorry if this is off but I couldn't hear certain syllables too well: "O Great Dragon who has fallen, rise once again. Summer's shifting. What would you do if you could smile and face the sky? My heart trembles with the strength of my feelings. Tell me a tale of how to live. The light of fate(?) grows. A voice with a song that you long to dance to. The snow above the iris, it is here that you sleep." I'm rusty so I apologize for anything deeply off D: D: D:
OHHHHH thank you so much, friend! That's a great translation, and sounds entirely fitting!
I wouldn't know if there was anything off, as I don't speak a lick of Japanese. Outside of, you know, like fifteen words I picked up from anime. xD
Thank you again, so much! x3
