one of the things i really like about httyd is that it shows the perspective of the adults, stoick and gobber talking in the great hall towards the start of the film and later parts of their quest to slay the red death are shown with none of the kid characters interrupting or being on screen. i think films with child/parent conflict need to embrace this because it's entirely crucial and wholly effective in showing why parents do what they do. no scene of some parent going "i just want to protect you" randomly on their kid will do half of the legwork of them talking to a close friend about why they believe their child needs their protection or actively doing something to actively physically protect their child (even if they dont see it.)
