Arthur’s Pass, New Zealand 2019 photo by me
i saw the enchanted castle hill fly by when we rushed over the arthur’s pass and i knew we had to come back!
we hurried to get from west- to east coast because it was the first day i felt somewhat okay again after a three day drama with a mean tonsilitis. no fun when you are on a camping roadtrip on the far end of the world - all on your own with a two year old. after a tour de force of driving 200km through rough terrain, spending hundreds of NZD at three hospitals and not sleeping much in three nights i finally got my antibiotics - but after these exhausting days i wasn`t 100 % sure anymore if that sore throat really was a tonsilitis - or a harbinger of a really bad flu. all i wanted was to bring us safe over new zealand‘s alps before both of us wither away on the westcoast (mama bear 🐻 imagination running wild, you know😂).
it turned out that a) arthurs pass was not at all the „final enemy“ i made up in my mind and was kinda scared to drive, it was actually a pretty smooth ride compared to a lot of serpentines i drove here in NZ =D b) it really was a tonsilitis and the antibiotics worked their magic right away and made me feel much better by the minute. good thing was we had plenty of time at the end to take it slow and enjoy the beautiful banks peninsula❤️ ... we did come back to drive a scenic part of the pass indeed and finally got to wander through the magnificent stone formations of castle hill - relaxed and replenished
look behind you, look ahead
