Amends (Hymndi and Hanako)
Hymndi was staring at his ceiling, his thoughts buzzing around inside the labyrinth he called a brain. Yet, surprisingly, one memory kept rising to the top of the rest, forcing itself to be heard. He sighed as his eyes closed, the disaster of meeting Hanako in the library replaying in his head. He remembered the awkward tension snowballing until it finally turned in to a disaster, and it was all his fault. His eyes snapped open as a heaviness in his chest grew. He has screwed that one up badly, and there was nothing he could do about it. He couldn't blame her really, he did only cause bad things to happen after all.
Hymndi shook his head, sitting up slowly, swinging his legs over the side of his bed. His gaze naturally shifted to the ground as he began chewing at his lip, but something caught his attention out of the corner of his eye. He looked over to his night stand and saw a rugged, thick, paperback book. A soft smile crept on to his face as he reached over and took it in his hands. It was his favorite book, an American book called House of Leaves. It was quite an odd, and moderately confusing, book but he adored it nonetheless. As he held the book in his hands, his eyes wandering over it slowly an idea began to hatch. What if he were to loan the book to Hanako? She liked to read, and if he gave her his favorite book they would have something to talk about. It was a brilliant idea, aside from the whole having to talk to Hanako idea. He sighed, closing his eyes again. He had to overcome the crippling nervousness and try to make things up to Hanako. With a little nod to himself he slipped in to his chair, bringing the book with him, and pushed himself out of the room.
After a couple hours of stalling, awkward conversations, and attempts to calm himself down, he found himself outside Hanako's room. He couldn't go back now, he had come so far. He wanted to turn and roll away as fast as he could, positive this was a horrible idea now, but something in the back of his head told him to stay. So, he did just that. He sat outside the door, hesitantly raising his clammy fist to knock three times on the door. He began to panic, his mind racing faster than his heart was beating, yet he pushed through it. "H-hey, Hanako? It's, uh... It's Hymndi.. I came by thinking maybe you might want to read this book I have. I mean, only if you want to. I understand if you don't. But, I-I have the book here, and I mean if you want to read it I can either leave it here for you or I can give it to you.. If you want..." His throat felt as dry as the desert and he could only think about how stupid he must have sounded. Yet, there he sat, waiting for Hanako to possibly answer. He hoped something would happen,
And so Hymndi waited.
