It's no longer May, but whatever, have an off-season mermaid!
This is my Atlantica design for my OC Lila. I've had the concept sketch since... 2022? And decided to see it through this year!
Her lower half is based on the Siamese Fighting Fish. I just felt it suited her backstory as an underground fighting ring fighter, which also explains the seaweed hand wraps. Also, those fins are just gorgeous, I couldn't help but be inspired! XD
As for her top, my concept was based around The Little Mermaid 2, where Ariel's daughter turns into a mermaid. Unlike Ariel who wears shells, Melody wears a camisole because it's what she was wearing on top when she transformed. In Lila's case, a sports bra was what she was wearing at the time she decided to jump into the sea and become a mermaid.
Running in late for @aspecardaweek!! This fills both Day 1 and 2 (Asexuality + Aromanticism)
This is Nellriel! She’s my aroace 17-year-old Ranger-in-training! She’s headstrong and good with a sword, but… also impressionable and materialistic ^^” but her heart’s in the right place!
She was initially created as a side character for another OC-centric fic, but ended up developing as her own (she’s even on LOTRO now!).
I'll put the Discovery prompt under the cut so this post doesn't get too long (and tag for discussed aro/acephobia)
I don’t think Nellriel ever had a moment she “discovered” she was aroace, and I definitely don’t think she has the language to describe her experience, but she did go through that thing growing up where her friends started getting interested in sex and romance while she never did, and felt very confused and out of place because of it. She felt in realtime that whenever she came home, her peers became less and less interested in her tales and more absorbed in the lives they're building that are different from hers. She often gets called “childlike” and “innocent” (despite having orc blood on her hands) when she visits her hometown and there’s this underlying expectation that she’s supposed to “grow up and act like a real adult”.
She only feels that kind of alienation when she goes home though. Out in the world, she’s a hero and an adventurer. Evildoers beware!
