Syed Tareq Rahman “Wheel man”, iron, jute, resin and wheel Exhibited at ONLY CONNECT.EDITION ONE, at Daily Star-Bengal Arts Precinct, September 2014 When first given the opportunity to make work according to his own inspiration - a Master’s student at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka - Tareq was drawn to the idea of working on a subject that is close to his heart. His series of works on urban existence are one of the outcomes of that fascination. His counterpart and fellow participant in Edtion One Emran Sohel points out the synergy, in the exhibition between Tareq’s chosen materials (e.g. iron wire, ball-bearings, resin, jute dust); the display and the subject of the series. Viewing the work from a more formal perspective, Pervaj Hasan - another of the artists in the show - was interested by the almost, drawing-like quality of the sculptural forms.
