Welcome to the Art in the Streets Photo Challenge! Instructions on how to share your photos are at the end of this post.This week I will take you to into a Sydney laneway to share the nostalgic artwork “Forgotten Songs” which aims to please both your eyes and your ears.

Forgotten Songs in Angel Place

Side step the crowds on George Street into the peaceful seclusion of Angel Place. An array of bird cages hangs high above the cobblestones between the tall buildings. The empty cages are a symbolic reminder that the area was once home to many species of native birds.

The display is named “Forgotten Songs”. If you listen carefully you can still hear the birds singing and calling above your head. Look beneath your feet. The names of birds are engraved in the path.

Enjoy a quiet moment or two in the lane away from busy city streets.

Art in the streets

Share photos of artworks that catch your eye in the street.

The definition of art is broad! It could be anything from fountains, statues, sculptures to street art, light fittings, stained glass windows or artistic floral displays in public gardens. Anything big or small, old or new that catches your eye is good.

How to participate

Every Wednesday I will post a photo of an artwork in a public place with a brief description of what it is it is and how to find it.
