Indulge in the rich, smoky flavors of this dark and moody halloumi bagel burger. Grilled portobello mushrooms and halloumi cheese are paired with a tangy balsamic reduction, peppery arugula, and a creamy mayo-mustard sauce, all sandwiched between toasted bagels. Perfect for a dramatic food photography session.
Ingredients: 2 bagels. 2 slices of halloumi cheese. 2 large portobello mushrooms. 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar. 2 tablespoons olive oil. 2 cloves garlic, minced. 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced. 2 handfuls of arugula. 2 tablespoons mayonnaise. 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard. Salt and pepper to taste.
Instructions: Preheat your grill or grill pan to medium-high heat. In a small saucepan, simmer the balsamic vinegar over low heat until it reduces by half, about 5-7 minutes. Set aside. Brush the portobello mushrooms with olive oil and minced garlic. Season with salt and pepper. Grill the portobello mushrooms and halloumi cheese slices for 3-4 minutes per side, or until they have nice grill marks and are tender. While grilling, toast the bagels on the grill until they are lightly browned and crispy. In a small bowl, mix the mayonnaise and Dijon mustard together to create a sauce. Assemble the burgers: Spread the mayo-mustard sauce on the bottom half of each bagel. Place a grilled portobello mushroom on top, followed by a slice of halloumi cheese. Add a handful of arugula and some thinly sliced red onion on top of the halloumi. Drizzle the reduced balsamic vinegar over the burger, and place the top half of the bagel on top to complete the burger. Serve your dark and moody halloumi bagel burger immediately, and enjoy!
