As I...
Sit here, writing this piece for you, I begin to think about myself. I think about what's been happening in my life, where I'm headed and where I've been. Lately, I've been feeling horrible. My body seems to be caving in on me. I do not enjoy it one bit. My muscles scream at me, my heart pulses with such force that it pains me. My shoulders give out and my breathing is labored. I am in pain almost daily yet, me being me, denies medical attention. I get over this all the time, so why should this be any different? I mean, what doesn't kill me only makes me strong right? Wrong it seems. I am left feeling weaker every time. I don't get truly scared often, but whenever I have a bad day, I get scared. Very scared. And it's not just me who gets scared about it seems. My physical deterioration scares a couple of others. For one, I was with my friend, and we were sleeping. Then I'd awaken, after my body temperature skyrocketed and my breathing became rushed and labored. I awoke from it and then my body gave in. It shut down until only the barest of functions needed to keep me alive were running, and poorly at that. From there, it got steadily worse until I could barely move my arms and she was worried half to death. I'll admit. I got scared. I began to lose it, not too much, but enough to get me worried about my mental health on top of everything. I'm stubborn and deny medical attention all the time. I'm strong enough to get by without medication and the like. So I don't take any of it. Besides, there's only one person I trust taking care of me. When I was breaking down, I was told that I looked 10 years older, that everything bad that's ever happened to me has caught up and started attacking me. I guess that's what I get for relaxing. Right now, in my life, I'm at a nice place, not where I want to be, but I'm content. I've all the right people around me, and it's good. I've got the one person I trust to take care of me. I'm near where I want to be, but a couple of things need to be changed for me to be 100% content with life and where I am. First and foremost being my physical health. My deterioration is preventing me from getting in shape, which is preventing me from being healthy. This all stems from my job, which has very erratic hours that are causing me to not eat properly, not sleep properly, to the point where I sometimes forget to sleep and eat. That's the second thing, or first depending on circumstance, is my job. this is what's beginning to put me in such pain, and it only makes it worse the more I work. But I can't afford to not work. So I must stick through it. Third, is another matter. Fourth, is me. I need to take time to get healthy, physically and mentally. This is all for now. Thank you, once again for reading. Thank you for listening to the troubles of this writer And thank you all for just being there The Good Captain
As I...
Sit here illuminated by the electric light of my monitor, I begin to think of the year that was. With all it's events and it's turns. All the changes in the world and all the changes in my life. The changes in my life begin with the starting of this year. I went to my first Tumblr meet-up, met some amazing people and made some friends who I never wish to let go. Then, I broke up with my then long-term girlfriend, more on that if you ask me. Then I got a job working for my cities casino as a bartender/waiter. Then I started to really write The Good Captain and set myself a goal to become a journalist/column writer. This year saw me becoming one friends with an amazing girl from the sunny state of Arizona, of whom I would never ever give up. It saw me breakdown and begin to reassess my life. I became stronger, I focused more on goals and achievements and I pursued them. Of all my years on this fine planet you Humans call Earth, I have never seen such an eventful year, not since September of 2001. This year alone I have seen the Tunisian government crumble and fall, Egypt become a military state in wait of a general election. A 9.1 earthquake decimate Japan, Tsunamis further the damage and wreck four nuclear reactors leading to Japan quarantining a large amount of people. Then I got to watch one of the most amazing countries in the world bounce back to 95% functionality in a matter of weeks! It was truly amazing.
Then Libya erupted into civil war and the UNSC declares a 10-0 vote to make Libya a No-Fly zone until further notice due to government aggression towards civilians. Then due to the battles between rebels and Gaddafi troops and loyalists, military intervention begins as French fighters make recon flights over Libya. The Libyan civil war is something I felt very strongly about if you all remember correctly, new followers might not. If you're unclear as to the extent of the civil wars' atrociousness, Gaddafi authorised use of .50 caliber machine gun bullets (That's as long as the length from the tip of your middle finger to the base of your palm), on civilians.
Then we had the Royal Wedding, of which I couldn't really give two shakes for. Then, on the 1st of May, some of the greatest news to ever be seen by my eyes and heard by my ears, the death of Osama Bin Laden, the very man who was behind the 2001 attacks, was killed during an American Military operation in Pakistan. Oh that was an amazing day. In July we had the first artificial organ transplant, which was an artificial windpipe coated with stemcells. That's pretty cool. Come on, robo-organs, way cool.
Then in the same month, we had the terrorist attacks in Oslo and Utøya. In the 8 days between the 20th and the 28th of August, Libyan Rebels won the Battle of Tripoli and successfully overthrew Gaddafi's government! Two joyous days in two months? That's pretty awesome.
On the 18th of October, Israel and Hamas (A Palestinian militant group) began a huge prisoner swap in which Hamas released Gilad Shalit in return for 1027 Palestinian and Israeli-Arab prisoners. On the 20th, Gaddafi was killed in Sirte with the NTC taking control of the city, ending the war! Oh that was another amazing day! On the 31st, two big things happened, the population of Earth reached 7 billion, and UNESCO accepted Palestine as a member with a 107-14 vote. And finally, in December, Obama repealed the Don't Ask Don't Tell rule in the US Armed Forces. So much amazment, it was awe-inspiring. After all this time, service-men can be openly gay. America finally ends the Iraq War. This year, it has been amazing. It has been awe-inspiring and rage inducing. But it makes me proud to live on this world to see us all pulling through all this. I am so proud of all of you. I seem to be truly hoping for world peace one day. And we slowly seem to be on the way to achieving it. I know not wether it will be achieved in my liftime, or the next, but we are surely on the way to it. Now I leave you with a quote, as usual, this time from Buddha himself, one of the wisest men to have ever graced the world with his presence. "Hatred does not cease by hatred, but only by love; this is the eternal rule" Thank you for reading my words, I hope they have found you in good health and sound mind. I hope that the rest of your year is amazing, and you all finish your resolutions. I hope that the beginning of your next year is more amazing the last, and most of all, I hope that you all keep reading my words. Thank you, The Good Captain.

DISCLAIMER: THIS IS A POST ABOUT HOW I SEE THINGS, DON'T LIKE IT? FUCK OFF
Sit here yet again encapsulated in sound, I begin to think. I begin to think of the world in the past few months. What about you? Have these events struck a chord with you?
Let me begin with natural disasters. Here in Australia we have had a multitude of disasters these 3 months, all on separate occasions. we have had floods in Queensland and Victoria. Fires in Perth. A cyclone in Queensland. In three months. Next, we have Christchurch. They got hit with a massive earthquake in late feb, Decimated the city and it's environs. Now, most recently, roughly 3 hours ago from this writing, we have Japan. Hit by an 8.8 earthquake, with rolling tsunamis. May our prayers to whatever deity or holy being we pray to be heard.
Now, onto Human problems. My favorite one that set the world into a frenzy! Something I like to call "The Real World Bloody Valentine." I call to your attention the events following February 13th in Libya. Gaddafi, the man who has been in power for 42 years, that is 42 years too long, essentially waged war on his people. .50 caliber bullets were fired upon civillians. Military personnel who did not comply were shot and killed, their bodies disposed of in mass graves. And there was not a thing we could do about it. Not a thing I could do about it.
The world is a disgusting place, with hidden pieces of beauty, but mostly disgusting. And people wonder why the world is fucked up. Because we made it like that.
"We are the cause of a world gone wrong. Civilisation is over. Elect the Dead" Serj Tankian.
