From now on any negative situation that tempts me to go “why would God…” will be answered with “why would Eugenides send Costis packing??”
#as in!!#I read all kinds of trickster stories and all kinds of in-the-moment-negatively-seeming-or-hurtful things happen#and I never question the goodness of the one doing them in just like “’ooh mhmm wink wink’ and wait till the revelation of what they were#Actually doing#what was the Good Thing the negative thing was hiding#and I never go ‘but why would x do this??’ and feel betrayed because I trust the character#so why the heck should I do that to God??#the biggest conscience striker in this regard is the point in crooked kingdom where for all we know Kaz Brekker#notorious thief crook and killer has apparently turned on and murdered Kuwei#which is given his history actually a reasonable assumption#but I went nah he didn’t or if he did there’s something#I don’t know about Kuwei and he was going to do something bad#but Costis being sent home so he doesn’t get murdered is the clearest example of the principle#there are hidden things and things we don’t understand going on! they are too big! but no matter how bad there will either be some good#at their root or in their end!
